Urbana High School is seeking a Choreographer to create dance and movement for school theatre productions and to manage scheduling and communication with dancers. The role reports to the Athletic Director/Assistant Principal and involves collaborating with directors, lighting, music, and costume departments to ensure high-quality routines.

The ideal candidate will have extensive dancing experience, a passion for dance, strong creative thinking, and excellent communication skills.

Qualifications

• Experience creating dance and movement for theatre productions.
• Ability to collaborate with directors, lighting, music and costume teams.
• Strong planning, communication, and rehearsal management skills.

Responsibilities

• Create dance and movement for theatre productions and manage scheduling with actors.
• Develop steps that fit mood, music, theme and are audience-appropriate.
• Guide dancers through steps, formations, and timing during rehearsals.
• Ensure rehearsal space is booked and dancers are notified in a timely manner.
• Research dance styles by watching performances and exploring ideas.
• Attend shows to gain new ideas and network with others.
• Notify Director of potential issues and draft contingency plans.
• Schedule one-on-one sessions and provide extra support as needed.
• Show up on time for rehearsals, performances, and meetings.
