Job summary

The Nantucket Public Schools seek a dedicated Teacher Assistant for Nantucket High School (Grades 9-12). You will assist teachers, supervise students, and provide targeted interventions to individuals or small groups to promote academic progress and positive behavior.

This role requires strong communication, patience, and collaboration with students, families, and school staff. An Associate's degree is required, with a Bachelor's degree preferred; Massachusetts teaching credentials are valued.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred in education or related field
• Massachusetts Teaching Certificate/License preferred
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with students, staff, and parents
• Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds; Spanish proficiency a plus
• Experience supporting students with varying abilities and learning needs

Responsibilities

• Present and reinforce learning concepts with students one-on-one or in small groups
• Provide extra assistance to students with special needs, including English learners or those with disabilities
• Enforce classroom rules to support appropriate behavior
• Supervise students during class, specials, lunch, recess, and field trips
• Assist teachers with recordkeeping and clerical duties
• Monitor student progress and document observations for conferences
• Assist in preparing materials and resources for lessons
• Support therapeutic programs under supervision of licensed staff
• Assist with feeding and basic care as needed
• Attend staff meetings and participate on committees as required
• Perform other related duties as needed
