Job summary

Young World Physical Education seeks a High School Special Education Educational Associate to assist the classroom teacher in delivering instructional support and managing student behavior. This 9.5‑month, full‑time position runs Monday through Friday 8:15 am–4:00 pm and requires strong communication, patience, and basic computer skills to maintain records and support students with diverse needs.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Basic understanding of the needs of children.
• Ability to relate effectively to children of all ages and with different academic and behavioral needs.
• Patience and compassion, and a caring and helpful relationship with children.
• Basic computer skills including word processing, internet searching, and email.
• Professional communication skills, both written and oral.
• Ability to physically lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to bend, lift, sit on floor, run short distances, and assist physically active students.
• Emotional maturity and stability for the specialized work involved.
• Initiative and the insight to anticipate problem situations.
• Ability to take directions, work with minimal supervision, and follow policies.

Responsibilities

• Assists students in interpreting and following the teacher's directions.
• Assists students with classroom assignments during independent work time and/or workstations.
• Works with individual students or groups to reinforce learning of material or skills.
• Accompanies and assists students in integrated classes, recess, and lunch.
• Assists with collection and preparation of materials for lessons.
• Maintains student records and documentation.
• Supervises and enforces discipline according to directions.
• Assists with health, safety, and medication needs as instructed.
• Corrects assignments, data collection and entry; maintains records and clerical tasks.
• Participates in professional development as requested.
