Job Description

Reports To: Principal

Supervises: May coordinate and direct teacher assistants.

Purpose: To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Management of Instructional Time: Prepare materials and equipment for each lesson, start class quickly, engage students on task, and maintain high levels of student time‑on‑task.
  • Management of Student Behavior: Implement rules and procedures for classroom conduct, monitor behavior during all instructional activities, and address inappropriate conduct promptly while preserving student dignity.
  • Instructional Presentation: Review previous material, introduce new concepts, provide clear explanations and examples, assign tasks, ask questions, manage pacing, ensure smooth transitions, and summarize key points.
  • Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance: Set clear standards and due dates, circulate during class work to check performance, use oral and written assessments to gauge progress.
  • Instructional Feedback: Offer timely feedback on in‑class and out‑of‑class work, confirm correct responses, and provide corrective guidance as needed.
  • Facilitating Instruction: Develop instructional plans aligned with curricular goals, use diagnostic data to adjust objectives and tasks, maintain accurate records, and leverage available resources.
  • Interacting Within the Educational Environment: Treat all students fairly, collaborate with colleagues, communicate effectively with parents and the community.
  • Performing Non‑Instructional Duties: Carry out assigned non‑instructional responsibilities, adhere to laws and policies, engage in professional development.

Minimum Training and Experience

Degree in education or a related field that qualifies for licensure by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

Minimum Qualifications or Standards

  • Data Conception: Compare and analyze observable characteristics of data, people, or objects.

  • Problem‑Solving: Apply logical and scientific thinking to define problems, gather data, draw conclusions, and interpret instructions.

  • Numerical Aptitude: Perform basic arithmetic and apply statistical concepts.
  • Manual Dexterity: Use hand tools and operate office equipment with coordination.

  • Communication via Phone: Talk and hear effectively.

  • Constantly monitor student safety in inclusive activities.
