Job summary

The Wayne Community School District invites applications for a Secondary Mathematics Teacher in Corydon, Iowa. The position is full-time and reports to the Building Principal.

The teacher will deliver instruction in mathematics, maintain a productive classroom, and support district educational goals. Responsibilities include planning lessons, tracking student progress, collaborating with staff, and upholding school policies.

Responsibilities

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the district.
  • Prepares for classes assigned.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standard of behavior using the Capturing Kids Hearts philosophy.
  • Strive to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Evaluates student progress on a regular basis. Notify parents/guardians of any student who may be failing or near failing.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations and Board policy.
  • Be available to students and parents for educational related purposes outside of the instructional day when required or requested under reasonable circumstances.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings.
  • Cooperates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives and methods. Assist in developing and maintaining a guide for all courses in specific curriculum area.
  • Assists in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials.
  • Responsible for co-curricular activities as assigned.
  • Provides for own professional growth through reading, workshops, seminars conferences and advance coursework.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of equipment and materials.
  • Demonstrates mathematical concepts using models, whiteboard, overhead projectors and other standard or teacher prepared instructional aids.
  • Provides opportunities when needed for individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
  • Communicates effectively and professionally with parents, students and school counselor o discuss the individual student’s progress.

Executive Summary: The Math Teacher is responsible for providing instruction, leadership, and supervision to students. The Math Teacher will instruct students on core subject areas. This position will support and uphold the mission and vision of Wayne Community School District.

Essential Functions:

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the district.
  • Prepares for classes assigned.

Work Environment: The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: walking, standing, sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; rarely lifting items above twenty-five pounds. Physical actions may include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, bending at the waist, and reaching to retrieve teaching materials. The job requires regular walking, talking, and standing and potentially sitting. The job is performed regularly indoors with occasional exposure to seasonal temperatures and natural elements; subject to moderate to loud student, campus and environment noise; subject to frequent interruptions and contact with employees and students; regular use of computer keyboard, mouse and other basic technological devices. This position is not eligible for remote work.

Terms of Employment: Salary and benefits are to be determined by the board.
