The Head Baseball Coach organizes, coordinates, and promotes a comprehensive athletic program that is designed to meet the needs and interests of the school community. Provides leadership, coaching, instruction, and motivation to maintain a successful athletic program
Essential Job Functions
Program Leadership and Instruction
- Provides leadership and motivation to build a successful athletic program.
- Attends team practices and games.
- Supervises Assistant Coaches by coordinating coaching assignments, providing guidance and feedback, ensuring adherence to program expectations, and supporting the development of student athletes and coaching staff.
- Directs, coordinates, supervises, and monitors student athletes.
- Informs students about the program to encourage participation.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of coaching practices, sports rules, and regulations.
- In-depth knowledge of baseball rules, regulations, and effective athletic coaching techniques.
Safety and Medical Care
- Takes reasonable precautions, including monitoring environmental conditions, to protect students, staff, equipment, and facilities.
- Instructs athletes in safety procedures and reporting injuries immediately.
- Ensures availability of a supplied first aid kit and emergency care cards.
- Monitors and provides medical assistance to injured participants, coordinating participation decisions with the Athletic Trainer and Activities Director.
Administration and Operations
- Prepares and submits required forms (eligibility rosters, player addresses, accident reports) to the Athletic Director
- Coordinates team away-game transportation arrangements with the Athletic Director.
- Organizes and monitors fundraising activities.
- Participates in school awards programs.
- Assumes responsibility for professional growth and keeps materials, records, and supplies up-to-date.
Compliance, Ethics and Professional Standards
- Complies with rules of the Virginia High School League, regional/district councils, and school board policies.
- Maintains proper staff-student boundaries, respect for ethical/legal duties, acts as a positive role model.
- Demonstrates professional appearance, demeanor, dress, behavior, andnon-discriminatory practices.
- High moral character, professional demeanor, non-discriminatory practices, and serving as an educated role model.
Student and Community Engagement
- Models and instills positive sportsmanship qualities.
- Interacts with student athletes, teachers, parents, and the community to build enthusiasm and engage support.
- Establishes communication procedures with parents/guardians.
- Monitors athletes' academic performance and ensures assistance is provided when needed.
Qualifications, Experience, and Education
- Knowledge of coaching techniques for student athletes and the rules and regulation of the sport. (REQUIRED)
- Possess the ability to establish good working relations with students, coaches, administrators, parents and other school-community members.(REQUIRED)
- High School Diploma(REQUIRED)
- 3-5 years of successful experience as a baseball coach, assistant coach, or competitive baseball player with the ability to teach skills, develop student athletes and coaching staff. (REQUIRED)
- CPR/First Aid Certification(REQUIRED)
