Job summary

Federal Way Public Schools is seeking an energetic high school assistant coach to support growth in student athletes by teaching fundamental skills and promoting academic and athletic excellence. The role emphasizes leadership, safety, and positive social development within the school and community.

Applicants must meet age requirements and complete required certifications; availability for practices and games is essential.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.
Prior sport-specific playing and/or coaching experience in a secondary and/or post-secondary athletics program and/or related club coaching experience.
Proven training and experience in the presentation of drills, safety factors, and proper application of skills.
Work scheduled hours on a consistent basis.
Two or more years of paid high school and/or post-secondary sport-specific coaching experience and/or related club coaching experience.
Completion of the National Federation Coaching Fundamentals Course to include passing the test.
19 years of age or older, per WIAA regulations.
Criminal background clearance.
First Aid and CPR certification (hands-on).
Online Concussion Training (CT).

Responsibilities

Professional Development and Leadership: stay current with sport literature and attend clinics/workshops.
Rules and Regulations: study and understand WIAA and district rules.
Program Promotion: share scores and information with media and league websites.
Program Organization: attend practices and contests; implement coaching systems as directed.
Standard of Care: model safety training and possess basic first aid skills.
Professionalism: deliver positive coaching behaviors and develop student athletes.
Sportsmanship and Ethics: model ethical behavior and good citizenship.
