Job summary

DAKOTA CUSD 201 SCHOOL DISTRICT is seeking an Assistant Coach at Dakota Jr/Sr High School to help develop student-athletes, promote sportsmanship, and support athletic activities in line with IHSA/NFHS guidelines.

Qualifications

Assistant Coach

Position Type: Athletics/Activities/Coaching

Location: Dakota Jr/Sr High School

Compensation Range: $3,191-$4,387

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

To assist the Head Coach in developing student-athletes' athletic skills, discipline, sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and citizenship while promoting a safe and positive learning environment. The Assistant Coach supports the administration of the assigned athletic program in accordance with IHSA, NFHS, District #201 Board Policies, and the District Athletic Handbook.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. In addition to the requirements listed below, regular attendance is an essential function of this position.

  • Supports the Head Coach in carrying out the goals, philosophy, and expectations of the athletic program.
  • Follows all District policies, school rules, IHSA regulations, NFHS guidelines, and athletic handbook requirements.
  • Assists with planning, organizing, and conducting practices, drills, conditioning activities, and competitions as directed by the Head Coach.
  • Teaches sport-specific skills, strategies, rules, and techniques to student-athletes.
  • Provides positive instruction, encouragement, and feedback to student-athletes to promote growth and development.
  • Helps maintain a safe, orderly, and respectful environment during practices, competitions, locker room activities, and team travel.
  • Supervises student-athletes as assigned by the Head Coach and ensures appropriate behavior and conduct at all times.
  • Assists with monitoring student-athlete eligibility requirements, including physical examinations, fees, academic eligibility, and code of conduct expectations.
  • Communicates effectively with the Head Coach, student-athletes, parents, administration, officials, transportation staff, and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Assists with equipment, uniforms, and sport-specific inventory, including distribution, collection, storage, and maintenance.
  • Helps maintain team records, statistics, attendance, and other program documentation as assigned.
  • Assists with game-day and event preparation, including setup, cleanup, and supervision of team areas.
  • Supports the Head Coach in promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, citizenship, and respect among student-athletes.
  • Participates in professional learning and sport-specific development to maintain current coaching knowledge and best practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Head Coach, Athletic Director, or Building Principal.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) or meets current IHSA coaching qualification requirements.
  • Current certification in CPR, AED, and First Aid, or ability to obtain as required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the sport and applicable IHSA and NFHS rules.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents, and community members.
  • Previous coaching experience is preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS

Requires moderate in-district travel and occasional in-state and out-of-state travel for competitions. Work includes evenings, weekends, holidays, and irregular hours during the athletic season.

EVALUATION

Performance will be evaluated by the Athletic Director and/or Building Principal in accordance with District policies and procedures.
