Job summary

BARNES-JEWISH HOSPITAL is seeking support staff for the High Risk Cardiology unit. You will work 24 hours per week in the 7a–7p shift, with rotating holidays and every third weekend. The role involves direct patient care under RN supervision, vital signs, ADLs, and collaboration with a skilled nursing team.

Preferred candidates have CNA, PCT, EMT, or Surgical Tech experience. Benefits eligible with shift differentials, and opportunities to learn in a Magnet-designated academic medical center.

Qualifications

• Preferred: CNA, PCT, EMT or surgical tech experience.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• No prior experience required for entry-level support roles.

Responsibilities

• Implements direct patient care under supervision of the nurse.

• Educates patients and families; maintains clear documentation.
• Ensures supplies and equipment are available to meet patient needs.

Nursing Divisions 9100/9200 are 25 bed high risk cardiology units where you will find many exciting challenges and opportunities for learning. Many of the patients that you will care for require advanced medication infusions and post cardiac procedure care. Our team consists of registered nurses, patient/student nurse technicians, and house staff of residents, interns and other medical professionals.

Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose

Provides direct patient care to support the licensed professional nurses responsible for a team of patients to ensure a safe environment for patients by reducing risk of harm. Collects vital information on the patient and reports such to the nursing team which contributes to the overall assessment of each patient and any changes to a patient's condition.

Responsibilities

• Implements direct patient care under the supervision of the nurse, promoting patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Administers or assists patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), performs vital signs, intake & output, fall and pressure ulcer prevention measures, urinary catheter care, phlebotomy, or point of care testing as requested.
• Collects clinical data and information on patients, and reports changes in patient status to the nurse.
• Assists nurse with patient and family education. Documents all patient care activities provided with correct medical terminology. Acts as 1:1 patient safety sitter as necessary.
• Ensures availability of supplies and equipment to meet each patient's needs.
• Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development.
