Special Education Teacher

Job Summary:

The Special Education Teacher provides specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities, ensuring their access to a high‑quality education in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The teacher creates a positive and inclusive learning environment that fosters student growth, independence, and success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Instructional Planning and Delivery:
    • Develop and implement IEPs that address the unique needs of each student, in collaboration with parents, administrators, and related service providers.
    • Provide individualized and small‑group instruction in accordance with IEP goals and objectives.
    • Adapt and modify curriculum materials and teaching methods to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
    • Utilize evidence‑based instructional strategies and assistive technology to enhance student learning.
    • Monitor student progress and collect data to inform instructional decisions.
  • IEP Development and Implementation:
    • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the development of comprehensive and measurable IEP goals.
    • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date IEP documentation.
    • Communicate regularly with parents and related service providers regarding student progress and IEP implementation.
  • Classroom Management and Behavior Support:
    • Create a positive and supportive classroom environment that promotes student engagement and participation.
    • Implement behavior management strategies and interventions to address student behavior concerns.
    • Collaborate with school counselors and behavior specialists to develop and implement behavior support plans.
  • Assessment and Evaluation:
    • Administer and interpret a variety of assessments to evaluate student progress and identify areas of need.
    • Use assessment data to inform instructional planning and IEP development.
    • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to evaluate student eligibility for special education services.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and parents to ensure seamless integration and support for students with disabilities.
    • Communicate effectively with all stakeholders regarding student progress, IEP implementation, and classroom activities.
    • Attend and participate in professional development activities and staff meetings.
  • Compliance and Documentation:
    • Maintain accurate and confidential student records.
    • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local special education laws and regulations.
    • Adhere to district policies and procedures.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field.
  • Valid Oklahoma Special Education Teaching Certification.
  • Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Experience developing and implementing IEPs.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Commitment to the success of all students with disabilities.
