Job summary

Smithfield Foods, Inc. is seeking a Herdsperson to support herd technicians in daily animal care at our farm. The role involves feeding, vaccinating, moving animals, and maintaining records to support welfare and breeding programs. Training for advanced technician designation may be provided.

The position emphasizes teamwork, adherence to SOPs, and safety. A relocation package is available for suitable candidates who can meet the farm's physical demands.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous livestock handling helpful.
• Ability to do hard physical labor.
• Strong commitment to teamwork.
• Willingness to shower daily in and out of facility.
• Ability to follow instructions and deal with standardized situations.
• Must be able to work an average 48-hour work week, which can vary frequently.
• Weekend, evening, and holiday work required as needed.

Responsibilities

• Feed, water, vaccinate, and perform general animal husbandry tasks.
• Move animals and maintain efficient animal flows.
• Sanitize and wash farm areas with high pressure equipment.
• Process piglets with injections, castration, docking tails, and ear notching.
• Maintain production records and animal welfare standards.
• Care for animals' health, growth, and breeding.
• Assist with facility and equipment maintenance.
