Job summary

Smithfield Foods, Inc. is seeking a Herdsperson at our Missouri operation to assist Herd Technicians in routine animal care and farm tasks. The role emphasizes animal welfare, growth, and breeding management across designated facilities.

You will work with farm leadership, operate standard equipment, and help with health protocols while maintaining accurate records and complying with safety and environmental regulations. This position supports a fast-paced, team-based farming environment.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous livestock handling helpful.
• Ability to do hard physical labor.
• Weekend, evening, and holiday work required.
• Must be able to work an average 48-hour work week.

Responsibilities

• Feeds, waters, vaccinates, and performs general animal husbandry tasks including basic veterinary procedures.
• Assists in moving animals and maintaining efficient animal flows.
• Sanitizes and washes multiple areas on the farm using high pressure equipment.
• Processes piglets: injecting medications, castrating, docking tails, and ear notching.
• Maintains accurate production information and updates department records.
• T treats sick animals with a variety of pharmaceuticals by injection or oral application as required.
• Follows SOPs and training guides as required.
• Assists with facility and equipment maintenance.
• Maintains barn, office cleanliness, and laundry duties.
