Baylor Scott & White Liver Consultants of Texas in Dallas, TX is seeking a Physician Assistant to join our hepatology team. This role combines outpatient clinic duties with inpatient rounding at Baylor University Medical Center, offering opportunities to perform procedures such as paracentesis.

The ideal candidate is a graduate of an accredited PA program with NCCPA certification, Texas PA license, and BLS. 1–2 years of hepatology/ GI/ primary care experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • 1–2 years of experience preferred in Hepatology, Gastroenterology, or Primary Care.
  • Current NCCPA certification and Texas PA license.
  • BLS certification within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the physical and mental condition of patients.
  • Order, collect, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and diagnostic studies.
  • Prescribe and manage medications per approved protocols.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive treatment plans with physicians.
  • Monitor patient outcomes and adjust treatment plans as needed.
  • Perform procedures within scope of practice, including paracentesis.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team in inpatient and outpatient settings.

Baylor Scott & White Liver Consultants of Texas is seeking a Physician Assistant to join our established Hepatology team in Dallas, Texas. Our practice provides premier liver disease diagnosis and treatment, including the management of chronic liver disease, cirrhosis, viral hepatitis, liver cancer, and liver transplant evaluation and follow-up. With hepatologists on staff at Baylor University Medical Center, part of Baylor Scott & White Health, and Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center - Fort Worth, Baylor Scott & White Liver Consultants of Texas encompasses one of the most comprehensive and experienced liver disease practices in the nation. Our 12 liver outreach clinics located throughout Texas bring specialized liver care closer to home for patients. Our hepatologists regularly travel to outreach locations to care for patients with viral hepatitis, cirrhosis, liver masses, and other liver-related conditions.

Position Highlights

Job Summary

The Hepatology Physician Assistant is a licensed, certified, non-physician healthcare provider who actively renders direct patient care and possesses delegated prescriptive authority. The provider is credentialed and privileged, and services may be billed as an independent billing provider as recognized by Medicare and Medicaid within the healthcare system and in accordance with state regulations and organizational policies. This position provides comprehensive care to patients with acute and chronic liver disease in both the outpatient clinic and inpatient hospital settings. The provider will partner closely with hepatologists to evaluate, diagnose, treat, and manage complex liver conditions, as well as perform procedures within scope of practice and competency.

Essential Functions of the Role
  • Assess the physical and mental condition of patients through comprehensive and focused examinations and medical histories.
  • Order, collect, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and diagnostic studies.
  • Prescribe and manage medications and therapeutic treatments in accordance with approved protocols and evidence-based practice.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive patient treatment plans in collaboration with physicians and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Monitor patient outcomes and adjust treatment plans as needed.
  • Counsel patients and families regarding disease processes, medication management, nutrition, treatment plans, and health promotion.
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation.
  • Initiate consultations and referrals when appropriate.
  • Provide specialty consultation services related to hepatology and liver disease management.
  • Participate in inpatient rounding at Baylor University Medical Center.
  • Perform procedures within scope of practice and demonstrated competency, including paracentesis and other delegated procedures.

Qualifications Education
  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
Experience
  • 1 to 2 years of experience preferred in Hepatology, Gastroenterology, or Primary Care.
  • Experience caring for patients with chronic liver disease, cirrhosis, hepatitis, liver transplant patients, or other complex gastrointestinal disorders is preferred.
Certification / Licensure
  • Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) required.
  • Current Physician Assistant license in the State of Texas.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of hire or transfer.
