Job summary

University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center in Towson, MD, seeks a full-time BC/BE Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic (HPB)/General Surgeon to join the surgical team. You will provide high-quality care for liver, biliary and pancreatic diseases and contribute to a growing HPB program.

The role offers collaboration with an established HPB surgeon, a supportive multidisciplinary environment, and a balanced call schedule among seven providers with access to robotic and minimally invasive tools.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Completion of an accredited General Surgery residency.
  • Completion of a fellowship in Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery, Surgical Oncology, or Abdominal Transplant Surgery with significant HPB experience.
  • Board certification (or eligibility) in General Surgery; additional certification in Complex General Surgical Oncology is a plus.
  • Active or eligible for state medical license; DEA registration; BLS/ACLS certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgical procedures including hepatectomies, Whipple procedures, distal pancreatectomies, biliary reconstructions, and management of hepatic/biliary malignancies.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards to develop individualized treatment plans.
  • Provide on-call coverage for emergent HPB and general surgery.
  • Collaborate with interventional radiology, medical oncology, and GI teams on complex case management.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in EPIC.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and morbidity and mortality conferences.

The successful candidate will provide comprehensive, high-quality surgical care for patients with benign and malignant diseases of the liver, biliary tract, and pancreas, and will contribute to the growth of a multidisciplinary HPB program as well as participate in the general surgery call requirements.

Job Specifics
  • Position will be primarily based at St. Joseph Medical Center in Towson, MD.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform complex hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgical procedures, including hepatectomies, pancreaticoduodenectomies (Whipple procedures), distal pancreatectomies, biliary reconstructions, and management of hepatic/biliary malignancies
  • Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards (oncology, radiology, pathology, gastroenterology) to develop individualized treatment plans
  • Provide on-call coverage for emergent HPB and general surgery
  • Collaborate with interventional radiology, medical oncology, and GI teams on complex case management
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EPIC)
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, morbidity and mortality conferences, and departmental meetings
Required Qualifications
  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
  • Completion of an accredited General Surgery residency
  • Completion of a fellowship in Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery, Surgical Oncology, or Abdominal Transplant Surgery with significant HPB experience Board certification (or eligibility) in General Surgery; additional certification in Complex General Surgical Oncology is a plus
  • Active or eligible for state medical license DEA registration BLS/ACLS certification
