Advocate Health is seeking a Dialysis Technician to join our team in Concord, NC. The role supports dialysis initiation, patient prep, equipment setup, and documentation within the EMR under the supervision of registered nurses.

The successful candidate will assist with supplies, monitor patient responses, and help maintain the dialysis machinery and water system, ensuring safety and quality care for our patients.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required with BLS.
  • CertifiedClinical Hemodialysis Technician preferred or1 year hospital experience.
  • Ability to document in EMR per scope of practice.

Responsibilities

  • Possesses knowledge of dialysis initiation using diverse hemodialysis equipment.
  • Assists in obtaining and organizing supplies before, during and after dialysis.
  • Monitors patient response to dialysis and reports unusual findings to nurse.
  • Assists RN with patient prep, supplies, and room turnover.
  • Follows department policy and procedures.
  • Participates in in-services and performance improvement processes.
  • Documents in the EMR within scope of practice.
  • Provides total patient care including hygiene, toileting and nutrition under the dialysis team.
  • Maintains disinfection and routine maintenance of dialysis machine and RO system; alerts technicians as needed.

Job description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Possesses a thorough knowledge of dialysis initiation using a variety of equipment necessary for hemodialysis delivery.
  • Assists in obtaining and organizing supplies and instruments prior, during and after hemodialysis procedure.
  • Monitor patients' response to dialysis therapy and report any unusual findings to nurse
  • Assists Registered Nurse in preparation of patient, assembly of supplies, instruments, equipment, and termination of treatment; assists with all aspects of room/bay turnover.
  • Performs duties according to department policy and procedure.
  • Attends in-services/staff meetings; exhibits knowledge of current department related issues and participates in Performance Improvement Process.
  • Participates in educational opportunities to increase competency and meet personal needs and goals.
  • Documents in the EMR within their scope of practice
  • Provides total patient care including, but not limited to, hygiene, toileting and nutrition while under the care of the dialysis team
  • Maintains disinfection and routine maintenance of the dialysis machine and reverse osmosis water delivery system. Alert nursing leader/certified biomedical technicians immediately of any unexpected outcomes
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Must speak English in good, understandable terms. Intact sense of sight, hearing, smell, and touch. Finger dexterity. Critical thinking and ability to concentrate. Must be able to respond quickly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions. Physical Abilities Testing required.

Additional department specific physical requirements may be identified for unique responsibilities within the department by the nurse leader.

Vision and hearing for distances of up to twenty 20 feet is required, depth perception and must meet the necessary requirements of Ishihara's Color Blindness test as a condition of employment.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or GED required. BLS required per policy guidelines. Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician or 1 year of acute hospital experience required.
