Job summary

Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC), a member hospital of Dartmouth Health, seeks a BC/BE Medical Oncologist to join a team of experienced clinicians and support staff in Bennington, VT.

The role features a four-day schedule, primarily outpatient with a 1:4 call, and a comprehensive cancer program with infusion suite, on-site lab and pharmacy. SVMC offers sign-on bonus, relocation stipend, student loan assistance, and a competitive benefits package.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO with residency training in oncology.
  • Vermont medical license required or eligible.
  • Board certification in Oncology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical and related administrative services to ensure timely cancer care.
  • Abide by Dartmouth Health bylaws and professional staff guidelines.
  • Review patient medical records and histories to determine diagnoses and treatment plans.
  • Order and interpret screening and diagnostic tests as appropriate.
  • Prescribe oncology medications and coordinate with the care team.
  • Coordinate referrals and inpatient/outpatient care as needed.
  • Support patient education, counseling, and self-management for illness management.
  • Complete timely documentation and maintain patient privacy.

Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical and related administrative services to ensure timely care of patients.
  • Abide by the Dartmouth Health Bylaws for the Professional Staff and Code of Conduct.
  • Review records and detailed medical history from patient(s).
  • Determine appropriate diagnosis (diagnoses) and treatment plan(s).
  • Determine and order appropriate screening and diagnostic tests and studies.
  • Obtain informed consent for treatment diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and studies.
  • Interpret and evaluate test and study results.
  • Prescribe medications, treatments, and medical devices in accordance within specialty scope of practice and applicable rules and regulations.
  • Initiate referrals to other providers as necessary.
  • Initiate admission/discharge of patients, if applicable.
  • Provide consultation, education, and counseling regarding the management of acute and chronic illnesses and injuries. Encourage behavioral change and assist with self-management skills to improve overall health, within specialty scope of practice.
  • Complete appropriate documentation in a timely manner.
  • Provide patient and family-centered care.
  • Insure the patient's right to privacy, confidentiality and informed consent.
  • Supervise APP's as directed.
  • Participate in continuing medical education (CME).
  • Participate in quality and patient safety initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Advanced clinical degree (MD or DO)
  • Post graduate training in residency program
Required Licensure/Certifications
  • Medical License in the State of Vermont - Board Certified / Board Eligible
