Position Description

Old Dominion Mechanical, LLC is seeking a reliable and hardworking General Helper to assist skilled tradespeople—including plumbers, sheet metal mechanics, and HVAC mechanics—on commercial construction sites. This entry‑level position is ideal for individuals looking to gain hands‑on experience in the mechanical trades. The General Helper plays a vital role in supporting field crews by performing basic tasks, maintaining worksite cleanliness, and ensuring materials and tools are ready for use.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Assist tradespeople with basic tasks such as measuring, cutting, and holding materials in place
  • Load and unload tools, equipment, and materials at job sites
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the job site, including removal of debris and waste
  • Deliver materials and tools to different work areas as needed
  • Use hand and power tools under supervision
  • Perform simple assembly and disassembly of components
  • Follow all safety guidelines and wear appropriate PPE at all times
  • Perform other general labor duties as assigned by foreman or supervisors
Additional Responsibilities
  • Participate in safety meetings and tool‑box talks
  • Support site setup and breakdown at the beginning and end of projects
  • Learn trade‑specific techniques through on‑the‑job training
  • Assist in inventorying tools and equipment
Required Certification/s
  • OSHA 10 Certification (Preferred but can be obtained after hiring)
  • Valid Driver’s License (Preferred)
Required Training/s
  • Basic safety and tool usage training (provided on the job)
Required Work Experience
  • Industry: Construction / Mechanical Trades (Preferred but not required)
  • Role: General Labor or Entry‑Level Helper

Required Physical Abilities
  • Ability to lift and carry 50+ lbs
