Job summary

Interstate Waste Services, Inc. is seeking a Waste Collection Helper to join our team in Chester, NY. This hands-on, physically active role supports drivers, assists with lifting and loading, and participates in daily vehicle and route operations.

The position offers year-round work and a union environment. Ideal candidates are 18+ and legally eligible to work in the United States, capable of outdoor work in varying weather, and committed to safety, reliability, and teamwork within a busy waste

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Ability to repeatedly lift, push, pull, and carry materials weighing 50-75+ pounds
• Ability to safely mount and dismount trucks throughout the workday
• Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and attendance
• Team-oriented mindset and ability to work closely with drivers and coworkers

Responsibilities

• Collect and load refuse from residential and commercial customer locations into collection vehicles
• Assist drivers with safe maneuvering, backing, and positioning of sanitation trucks
• Ride on and off collection vehicles throughout the route
• Learn assigned routes and provide support to drivers during collection operations
• Participate in vehicle cleaning and daily housekeeping activities
• Attend required safety meetings, training sessions, and operational meetings
• Follow all company safety policies and procedures
