Job summary

GFL Environmental is hiring in North Carolina for a physically demanding waste collection role. You will safely collect solid waste and recyclables from customer sites and assist drivers with vehicle operations, including maneuvering in tight spaces.

Safety is paramount, with PPE required and company/state guidelines followed. A high school diploma or GED is preferred, and a valid driver’s license helps. Benefits include PTO, health coverage, and a retirement plan.

Responsibilities

• Safely collect solid waste and recyclables from customer premises and curbside locations.
• Assist drivers with safe vehicle operations and backing up in tight spots.
• Load wasteinto collection vehicles and operate compaction equipment safely.
• Perform pre-trip checks to ensure all equipment and safety gear are on board.
• Follow safety guidelines and wear PPE at all times.
• Interact with customers professionally and report route issues promptly.

Key Responsibilities

• Keep Communities Clean: Safely collect solid waste and recyclables from customer premises and curbside locations.
• Team Up with Drivers: Assist drivers with safe vehicle operations, including navigating tight spots and backing up.
• Equipment Operation: Load waste into collection vehicles and operate compaction equipment safely.
• Pre-Trip Prep: Audit trucks before heading out to ensure all required equipment (brooms, shovels, safety gear) is on board.
• Safety First: Perform equipment checks, follow company and federal/state safety guidelines, and wear proper PPE at all times.
• Customer Interaction: Tag prohibited waste items, report route issues promptly, and represent GFL with a friendly, professional demeanor.

What We're Looking For

• High energy & physical endurance: Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift up to 65 lbs regularly, and move up to 100 lbs with assistance.
• Outdoor Enthusiast: Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Team Player: Strong communication skills and a positive, team-first attitude.
• Reliable: Dependable, punctual, and safety-conscious.
• High school diploma/GED or valid driver's license is a plus, but not required!
