Job summary

Meridian Waste in Horn Lake, MS is seeking a Driver Helper to ride on the vehicle and assist the Driver with residential waste collection on a designated route. You will help load waste, carry bags and containers, and help direct the Driver from the ground to ensure safe, timely service.

You will also help maintain vehicle cleanliness, perform pre- and post-operation checks, interact courteously with customers and dispatchers, and follow all safety policies.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma.
• 1-3 years of experience in a similar position.
• Experience in the Solid Waste Industry preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ride on the vehicle to assist the Driver on a designated route.
• Operate packing mechanism and levers to activate the lifting and loading mechanism.
• Clean waste from the packer blade and truck body on each disposal trip; spray and clean the hopper and truck, if applicable.
• Perform complete pre- and post-operation inspection of the vehicle; report any safety issues on standard reports.
• Courteously interact with customers, dispatchers and others to ensure routes are serviced timely and professionally.
• Continuously monitor waste for unacceptable waste.
• Clean area around spills, adhering to safety standards and policies.
• Maintain adherence to productivity standards for the department.
• Follow all required safety policies and procedures.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Summary

The Driver Helper rides on the vehicle and assists the Driver in providing prompt, courteous and complete waste removal services for customers who reside on a designated residential route. Position is responsible for safely loading waste, as well as carrying bags and containers to the vehicle for disposal. The position assists the Driver in maneuvering his or her vehicle by directing the Driver from the ground. In addition, the Helper helps to maintain the cleanliness of the vehicle.

• Ride on the vehicle to assist the Driver while servicing customers on a designated route.
• Operate packing mechanism and various levers and handles to activate the lifting and loading mechanism
• Clean waste from the packer blade and truck body on each disposal trip; spray and clean the hopper and truck, if applicable.
