Job summary

Air Methods is seeking an experienced helicopter pilot to operate aircraft safely and in accordance with regulations. The role carries final authority for flight operations and safety, with responsibility for documentation and pre-flight sign‑offs.

You will engage in detailed planning, attend meetings, and participate in community outreach, while meeting stringent flight-hour qualifications. The position requires an FAA Commercial Helicopter Certificate with Instrument Rating, substantial flight

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school and two to five years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Pilots must have flown in category for a commercial operator or in the military within the previous 24 months
  • FAA Commercial Helicopter Certificate with Instrument Helicopter Rating
  • 2500 hours helicopter (3,000 hours preferred); 1000 hours turbine. 1000 hours Pilot-in-Command. 200 hours night. 100 hours instrument preferred.
  • Must be thoroughly familiar with all aircraft and medical systems of backup aircraft utilized at operational area
  • Each qualified and current Captain will maintain qualification/currency in accordance with the AMC pilot training program and the applicable FAR's.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • FAA second class flight physical undertaken once each year.

  • Completes pre-flight before every flight verifying the aircraft is in an airworthy condition by sign off of Daily Flight Log.

  • Able to conduct detailed flight planning with little notice to exacting standards.
  • Participates regularly in Air Methods meetings, activities, projects, committees and community outreach.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
