Job summary

Black Swan Group is launching a Gas Energy Trading operations role in Houston, TX. The Operations Analyst will support the front office trading team with trade capture, confirmations, settlements, and reconciliations, reporting to the Global Head of Commodity Operations.

The position requires 1–3 years of Gas Operations experience and will join the first Houston office, with a hybrid in-office/work-from-home setup after an initial period.

Qualifications

  • Gas Operations experience is a must, covering Confirmations and Settlements.
  • Experience with reporting to front office traders and PMs is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Energy Trading operations in North American gas markets is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Support gas and derivative energy trading activities in North American markets.
  • Manage trade confirmations, affirmation, physical settlement, reconciliations and lifecycle events.
  • Coordinate with Scheduling and Operator Teams to settle gas events.
  • Engage with traders and counterparties to mitigate risk and ensure smooth operation in systems (Openlink Endur).
  • Assist in onboarding new counterparties and exchanges as the business grows.

  • Title – Hedge Fund - Gas Energy Commodities Operations Analyst – Houston, US
  • Location – Houston, USA
  • Salary - $70,000 to $100,000 USD base salary + benefits + bonus (discretionary bonus - 30% to 40%) + additional perks.
  • US Citizenship – No Sponsorship offered on this role.
  • Working Model – 5 DAYS in the office for the first 3mths – 5 days and then 4:1 (hybrid working 1 Day WFH).
  • Prerequisite - Gas Operations experience is a must, covering Confirmations and Settlements.

Our client, a growing Hedge Fund, is launching a Gas Energy Trading business based in Houston, Texas, US.

The business has hired new Gas Energy PMs, Traders and Analyst in the front office and now looking for the 1st Gas Energy Operations Analyst to support the front office trading team in Houston with support from the Global Physical Commodities Operations team that covers Energy, (Gas, Powe, Emissions), and moving into Metals.

The hedge fund’s approach is very much working on bringing Physical Gas Trading and Energy Operations into the 21st century via a combination of technology, data and systematic investing to generate optimal returns in the Gas, Power and Energy trading in the North American markets.

This is an opportunity to effectively leverage the best technology, data and AI solutions to do things faster, more efficiently and improve operational workflows, processes, systems and risk management.

The team is looking for an Analyst with 1 to 3 years’ experience with reporting line to Global Head of Commodity Operations, and this will be the 1st hire for the Houston Office. Please note we have been asked to send candidates with Gas Energy Operations experience for this role, this is an Operations role.

The Gas Operations Analyst will be responsible for trade capture, trade confirmations, settlements, reconciliations and position life-cycle events across Gas Energy Trading, and have support from Global Operations team in US, London, and other teams based around the world.

  • Support all Physical Gas and Derivative Energy trading activities pertaining to North American Gas Markets.
  • Gas Trade Operations management, across trade confirmations, affirmation, physical settlement, reconciliations and working with the Scheduling and Operator Teams.
  • Manage and settle all Gas events across the entire Gas Energy trade lifecycle.
  • Account for Gas Trading T+0 trade capture exceptions, T+1 position and cash reconciliations.
  • Manage communication with Gas Trading desk, and counterparties to mitigate risk and trade management in systems – Openlink Endur.
  • Futures & Options assignments and expiries and working on projects to onboard new energy counterparties and exchanges as the business grow.

Prerequisite Experience - Hedge Fund Gas Energy Commodities Operations Analyst

  • 1 to 3 Years Gas Energy Commodities Operations experience is a must.
  • Given the successful incumbent will be facing off to the Gas Traders and PMs, need to be able to manage Gas Energy trade processing, confirmations, settlements, trade reconciliations, reporting and scheduling and logistics.
  • Energy experience is key requirement – US Gas markets is essential – bonus coverage across US Power is advantageous as the business expands and grows.
  • Futures and Options processing experience across ICE & CME Exchanges.
  • OTC trading with North American Energy Standards Board, (NAESB), ensuring energy trading is efficient and regulatory compliance.
  • Support Logistics Management - physical transport and storage, including pipeline management.
  • Process Automation Champion – be pro technology and look to leverage the best technology to automate, and drive efficiencies and ensure the business is forward thinking!
