Job summary

Amentum seeks a skilled Heavy Vehicle Mechanic to operate, repair, maintain, and test heavy power construction equipment. You will perform mobile maintenance, replace hydraulic lines, fix air conditioning systems, wheels and lights, and conduct diagnostics to ensure peak readiness on the flightline.

Required are a high school diploma and 2–5 years of heavy equipment experience, plus the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance (US citizenship).

• Must be experienced in the repair of major systems.
• Prefer motor vehicle air conditioning certification and experience.
• Specialized knowledge and skills in diesel and heavy automotive repair and maintenance.
• Skilled in replacing major components and parts on construction equipment.
• Must be able to read and understand schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings.

Responsibilities

• Conduct Mobile Maintenance duties and replace hydraulic lines, tires, lights, and related components.
• Perform heavy equipment maintenance including diagnostics and preventive maintenance.
• Disassemble and reassemble engines and mechanical units for inspection using test equipment.
• Replace hydraulic cylinders, valves, suspensions, and bearings.
• Perform routine vehicle inspections and maintenance.
• Coordinate parts and services with vendors daily.
• Enter maintenance data and process work orders in MAXIMO/DPAS.

Job description

Purpose and Scope:

The Heavy Vehicle Mechanic operates, repairs, maintains, and function tests heavy power construction equipment such as compressors, pumps, hoists, shovels, trucks, tractors, graders, bulldozers, front-end loaders, scrapers, motor graders, skid steers, backhoe, dump trucks and various flightline support vehicles and associated equipment.

• Conducts Mobile Maintenance duties. Replace and repair hydraulic lines, pneumatic equipment, air conditioning systems, wheels/tires, wipers, and light bulbs.
• Perform heavy equipment maintenance activities including installation, repair, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance.
• Disassemble and reassemble engines and mechanical units to inspect and diagnose parts using computerized test equipment, calibration devices, gauges, etc.
• Replace and rebuild hydraulic cylinders, valves, planetary drive units, suspensions, springs, bushings, and kingpins, seals, and bearings.
• Perform operator care such washing, vacuuming, and cleaning.
• Performs routine inspection and maintenance on vehicles such as checking oil, water, and tires.
• Ensures proper care and maintenance of equipment; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.

Administrative Responsibilities:

• Collects vehicle and equipment data; conducts 100% inventory annually.
• Engages with customers and mission partners on maintenance status weekly.
• Coordinate parts and services with vendors daily.
• Inputs data in maintenance system and perform work order processing in computerized maintenance management system daily (i.e. MAXIMO and DPAS).
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Two (2) to Five (5) years of experience in operating and maintaining heavy equipment.
• Licensed or trained to operate applicable items of heavy equipment.
• Must be experienced in the repair of major systems.
• Prefer motor vehicle air conditioning certification and experience.
• Specialized knowledge and skills in diesel and heavy automotive repair and maintenance.
• Skilled in replacing major components and parts on construction equipment. ractical understanding of theory of hydraulics (Pascal Theory), pulley, and gear ratio.
• Ability to read and understand schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings.
• Knowledge of diagnostics and ability to conduct technical research on the computer.
• Prefer knowledge of US military heavy vehicles and equipment, Material Handling Equipment (MHE), OSHA, American National Standards Institute (ANSI), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), military regulations standards, and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) requirements.
• Must be able to speak, read and write English.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust US Government Clearance.
• NOTE: Must be a US Citizen to obtain a Public Trust Clearance.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Physical requirements include prolonged standing, moderate walking, repeated bending, and climbing, overhead work, working in cramped positions, lifting, pulling and pushing weights up to 100 pounds. Good vision (corrected or uncorrected) and good hearing (with or without a hearing aid) required. Will work inside and outside in various weather conditions, subject to rapid changes in temperature due to nature of work. Hazards include danger from gas fumes, falls, electric shock and burns, cuts and bruises. Must have normal color vision. When performing work, responsible for adhering to environmental, safety, and health standards related to the activity, including the wearing of all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Must cease work and notify lead, supervisor, or manager of all unsafe conditions.

Service Contract Act (SCA) Compensation & Benefits:

This is an hourly, overtime-eligible position that falls under the Service Contract Act (SCA). In accordance with the Health and Welfare provisions of the SCA, and in addition to your base hourly rate, you may be eligible to receive an additional health and welfare payment for each hour you work to ensure compliance with the minimums set forth by the act. The amount you are entitled to receive will vary depending on the fringe benefits you select now and in the future.

Compensation Details:

$28.74
