Job summary

Amentum in Anchorage, Alaska is seeking a skilled Heavy Vehicle Mechanic to operate, repair, maintain, and function test heavy construction equipment and related flightline support vehicles.

You will perform diagnostics, replace hydraulic lines, AC systems, wheels, and other components, perform preventive maintenance, disassembly and reassembly of engines, and input data into maintenance systems such as MAXIMO and DPAS.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2–5 years of experience operating and maintaining heavy equipment.
  • Ability to read schematics and diagnose diesel and heavy automotive systems.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain US Public Trust clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct mobile maintenance duties: replace hydraulic lines, AC, wheels/tires, and lights.
  • Perform heavy equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnostics and PM.
  • Disassemble/reassemble engines and units to diagnose parts with test equipment.
  • Input data in CMMS and process work orders (MAXIMO/DPAS).
  • Maintain safety and environmental practices.

Purpose andScope:

The Heavy Vehicle Mechanic operates,repairs,maintains, and function testsheavy power construction equipment such as compressors, pumps, hoists, shovels, trucks, tractors, graders, bulldozers, front-end loaders, scrapers, motor graders, skid steers,backhoe,dump trucksand various flightline support vehicles andassociatedequipment.



Essential Responsibilities:

  • Conducts MobileMaintenance duties. Replace and repairhydraulic lines, pneumatic equipment, air conditioning systems,wheels/tires, wipers, and light bulbs.


  • Perform heavy equipment maintenance activities including installation, repair, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance.


  • Disassemble and reassemble engines and mechanical units to inspect and diagnose parts using computerized test equipment, calibration devices, gauges, etc.


  • Replace and rebuild hydraulic cylinders, valves, planetary drive units, suspensions, springs, bushings, and kingpins, seals, and bearings.


  • Perform operator care such washing, vacuuming, and cleaning.


  • Performs routine inspection and maintenance on vehicles such as checking oil, water, and tires.


  • Ensures proper care and maintenance of equipment; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.



Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Collects vehicle and equipment data; conducts100% inventory annually.


  • Engages with customers and mission partners on maintenance status weekly.


  • Coordinate parts and services with vendors daily.


  • Inputs data in maintenance system and perform work order processing in computerized maintenance management system daily(i.e.MAXIMO and DPAS).


  • Performother duties as assigned.



Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent


  • Two (2)to Five (5) years of experience in operating and maintaining heavy equipment.


  • Licensed or trained to operate applicable items of heavy equipment.


  • Must be experienced in the repair of major systems.


  • Prefer motor vehicle air conditioning certification and experience.


  • Specialized knowledge and skills in diesel and heavy automotive repair and maintenance.


  • Skilled in replacing major components and parts on construction equipment.


  • Practical understanding of theory of hydraulics (Pascal Theory), pulley, and gear ratio.


  • Ability to read and understand schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings.


  • Knowledge of diagnostics and ability to conduct technical research on the computer.


  • Prefer knowledge of US military heavy vehicles and equipment, Material Handling Equipment (MHE), OSHA, American National Standards Institute (ANSI), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), military regulations standards, and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) requirements


  • Must be able to speak, read and write English.


  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust U.S. Government Clearance.


  • NOTE: U.S. Citizenship is required to obtain a Public Trust Clearance.



Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Physical requirements include prolonged standing, moderate walking, repeated bending, and climbing, overhead work, working in cramped positions, lifting, pulling and pushing weights up to 100 pounds. Good vision (corrected or uncorrected) and good hearing (with or without a hearing aid) required. Will work inside and outside in various weather conditions, subject to rapid changes in temperature due to nature of work.Hazards include danger from gas fumes, falls, electric shock and burns, cuts and bruises. Must have normal color vision. When performing work, responsible for adhering to environmental, safety, and health standards related to the activity, including the wearing of all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Must cease work and notify lead, supervisor, or manager of all unsafe conditions.



Service Contract Act (SCA) Compensation & Benefits:

This is an hourly, overtime-eligible position that falls under the Service Contract Act (SCA). In accordance with the Health and Welfare provisions of the SCA, and in addition to your base hourly rate, you may be eligible to receive an additional health and welfare payment for each hour you work to ensure compliance with the minimums set forth by the act. The amount you are entitled to receive will vary depending upon the fringe benefits you select now and in the future.
