Defense Logistics Agency in New Cumberland, PA, is seeking a skilled maintenance technician to perform organizational maintenance and repair work on heavy duty equipment, hydraulic lifts, and related machinery.
You will inspect, troubleshoot, and replace worn parts, and carry out preventive and unscheduled maintenance on automotive vehicles and trailers. You will also operate light trucks and forklifts to move equipment and materials on job sites.
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition.
The SOE and minimum qualifications for this position is: Must possess a valid state and government driver's license and be capable of operating required vehicles.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Work is performed in tiring or uncomfortable positions for long periods of time requiring frequent standing, bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, and crouching. Work may be performed on top of, under, and in tight compartments of vehicles which may be cramped or require awkward positions. Items frequently lifted weigh up to 40 pounds. Strenuous effort is exerted to lift, push, pull, or position parts. Heavier items may require the assistance of fellow employees or lifting devices such as jacks, hoists, and cranes. Large vehicles may require the use of ladders or work platforms to accomplish the required task.
Work may be performed both inside and outside exposing the individual to drafts, changing temperatures, noise, and bad weather. Employees are exposed to irritations and discomfort from dust, grease, heat, and fumes and subject to cuts, burns, chemical irritations, bruises, electrical shock, and injuries from falls while repairing, positioning, and moving equipment. Employees follow prescribed safety practices and use recommended safety equipment appropriate for the job and work area as directed by the supervisor. These safety items may be uncomfortable to wear or use and may be worn or used for long periods. Types of protective clothing and equipment include, but are not limited to the following: ear, eye, respiratory, foot protection, and protective clothing (gloves, apron, coveralls, etc.). Employee will be required to wear approved hearing protective devices and an audiometric test will be conducted, as necessary, when working near or around noise hazardous areas, machinery, or equipment.
The incumbent of this position has been designated as an emergency employee. The term "Emergency Employee" is used to designate those employees who must report to work in emergency situations. Emergency dismissal or closure announcements do not apply to these employees. The employees who occupy these positions may be required to report for duty in any situation that prevents significant numbers of employees in the local area from reporting for work on time or which requires agencies to close all or part of their activities.

The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) is committed to maintaining a safe, drug-free workplace. All DLA employees are required to refrain from illegal drug use on and off duty. DLA conducts pre-employment, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, and random drug testing.
Applicants tentatively selected for employment in testing designated positions will undergo a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Refusal to undergo testing or testing positive for illegal drugs will result in withdrawal of the tentative job offer and a six-month denial of employment with DLA from the date of the drug test. Employees in drug testing designated positions are subject to random drug testing. A negative drug test result must be received by HR within 30 calendar days after the EOD (i.e., start date). The selectee's inability successfully pass; or refusal to conduct the test may result in: 1) the tentative or FJO being withdrawn during the recruitment process; or 2) subsequently being removed from Federal service for failure to meet a condition of employment. You may be required to sign a "Drug Test Statement of Understanding" if you are selected for this position.
The DLA drug testing panel tests for the following substances: marijuana, cocaine, opiates, heroin, phencyclidine, amphetamines, methamphetamines, fentanyl, norfentanyl, methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA), and opioids.
