Job summary

Air Mobility Command in Washington is seeking a lead heavy equipment and automotive mechanic to oversee on-base maintenance, troubleshooting, and overhauls of a wide range of heavy equipment and vehicles. You will direct work, assign tasks, and ensure safety and compliance with military standards.

Responsibilities

• Performs work direction responsibilities and assigns tasks based on supervisor guidance, schedules, or own initiative.
• Performs heavy mobile equipment mechanic work including troubleshooting and maintaining equipment such as 25K/60K loaders, 50K container handlers, bulldozers, powershops, road graders, and mobile cranes.
• Performs automotive mechanic work including troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance of forklifts, tow tractors, trucks, trailers, sweepers, wreckers, buses, vans, ambulances, pickup trucks, and sedans.
• Uses diagnostic tools, orders parts, completes documentation, and trains/assists others.
• Uses and maintains specialized tools; handles hazardous materials safely.

The primary purpose of this position is to lead personnel performing on base maintenance, directionof work,troubleshooting efforts, overhauling, repairing, modifying, and maintaining a variety of types of heavymobile andautomotive equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• CriticalPerforms work direction responsibilities. Provides individual and group work assignments based uponguidanceprovided by the supervisor, task completion schedules or own initiatives to meet operationalrequirements.
• Performs heavy mobile equipment mechanic work including troubleshooting malfunctions,determining the type andextent of repair required, repairing, and maintaining equipment including 25,000 (25K) and 60,000(60K) poundcapacity aircraft platform loading deck cargo loaders, 50,000 (50K) pound capacity containerhandlers, bulldozers, powershovels, road graders, and mobile cranes.
• Performs automotive mechanic work including troubleshooting malfunctions, determining the typeand extent ofrepair required, repairing, and maintaining vehicles including forklifts, tow tractors, truck tractors andtrailers, sweepertrucks, wreckers, busses, vans, ambulances, pickup trucks, and sedans. - CriticalUses diagnostic tools, orders parts, completes documentation, and provides training and assistanceto others.
• Usesdiagnostic computer printouts, reports, visual inspection, auditory tests, and test equipment such ascomputerized engineanalyzers, compression testers, test benches, oscilloscopes, multimeters, and special feeler and dialgauges. - Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations andmaintains a safe andclean work environment. Uses and assures proper fit of required safety equipment and clothing.
• Uses and maintains specialized tools. Responsible for proper handling and disposition of hazardous materials.
