Summary/Objective

The service technician performs bumper-to-bumper service for vehicles brought to the dealership, specializing in heavy line diesel knowledge. This important position helps to ensure that our customers receive quality work performed on their vehicles, resulting in high levels of customer satisfaction, and ensuring their vehicles are safe and comfortable to drive, leading to repeat business for many years.

Essential Functions
  • Conduct general repair and replacement services including brake pads and shoes, tires, wheel alignment, steering and suspension components, wheel bearings, exhaust systems, heating and cooling systems, air conditioning, drive train, and accessory installations.
  • Perform maintenance services including oil changes, fluid exchanges, filter replacement, fuel system services, preventative maintenance, belt and hose replacement.
  • Perform evaluation services including charging system analysis, brake inspections, fluid leak evaluations, tire pressure and tread depth reading.
  • Conduct visual safety and courtesy inspections.
  • Perform diagnostic services including emissions control systems, drivability concerns, overheating, ABS and SRS systems, electrical and air conditioning systems.
  • Perform advanced repair and replacement services including timing belts, intake manifold gaskets, head gaskets, brake hydraulics, rear main seal, clutch, axle bearings, steering gear, sensors, switches and modules.
  • Use factory specifications as the standard in all repair, service and customization work.
  • Set a goal of 100% productivity and strive to meet it.
  • Receive service assignments from the service writer or service manager.
  • Complete repair work within the allotted time.
  • Set goals, develop skills and constantly increase efficiency skill level.
  • Submit parts requests as soon as required for a particular job.
  • Keep the service writer or service manager informed of any supplemental work or delays in order to provide customers with up‑to‑date information.
  • Aid the service advisor as needed to write work orders, conduct test rides, interact with the customer, or otherwise guarantee customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure proper paperwork is completed and filed after every job completion.
  • Maintain technical qualifications by completing required training programs.
  • Leave the vehicle cleaner when the job is completed than when it was received.
  • Ensure each job is thorough and complete to reduce return repairs; complete any return repairs quickly, correctly and cheerfully.
  • Provide excellent service for all customers, both external and internal, offering dependable vehicle service.
  • Maintain a clean, efficient work area and assist in keeping the shop neat and organized.
  • Perform all duties in a safe manner, reporting any accidents, injuries or unsafe conditions to management immediately.
  • Show up on time, ready and able to perform essential job functions.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures and practices.
  • Perform other tasks as directed.

Requirements
  • 2 to 5 years’ experience in an automotive related technician/mechanic role.
  • High School or GED preferred.
  • ASE certification preferred but not required.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full‑time position. Days and hours will vary to accommodate the service department working hours. Schedules are subject to change. Two‑weeks’ notice of a schedule change will be provided whenever possible.

Travel

Occasional travel for training or to assist at other dealerships may be required.
