Job summary

PJ Dick-Trumbull-The Lindy Group is seeking a Heavy/Highway Structures & Concrete Labor Foreman to lead field crews on bridge and roadway projects. You will plan daily work, coordinate formwork, reinforcement, concrete placement, and safety compliance while collaborating with the superintendent and inspectors.

As a senior field leader, you will ensure quality, schedule adherence, and safe operations across multiple crews on project sites, with travel as required and a commitment to mentorship

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
• 5+ years of heavy civil/bridge/highway/structural concrete exp., incl. 2+ years in lead role
• Knowledge of structural concrete operations: formwork, reinforcement, placement, finishing, curing
• Ability to read drawings/specs/survey info and translate to daily crew tasks
• Strong safety knowledge and job hazard analysis practices
• Leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to document daily production, labor, materials, and field conditions
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
• Ability to work overtime, nights, weekends, varying shifts, and travel as required
• Experience with DOT bridge/highway projects and survey equipment would be a plus

Responsibilities

• Lead crews in bridge construction, rehabilitation, structural concrete and related heavy/highway work
• Plan daily work, assign tasks, communicate goals, adjust crew resources
• Read plans, specs, shop drawings, survey info, and concrete placement details
• Coordinate formwork, reinforcing steel, embeds, shoring, placement, finishing and curing
• Verify line, grade, dimensions, elevations, reinforcement placement, form readiness
• Coordinate deliveries, pumps, cranes, tools, testing, traffic control, inspections
• Conduct pre-task planning and daily safety meetings; enforce safety rules
• Ensure PPE use and compliance with fall protection, excavation, lifting, rigging and silica controls
• Monitor workmanship, reduce rework and waste
• Track labor hours, deliveries, equipment use; provide reports
• Maintain orderly site; inspect and store tools/equipment
• Train and mentor crew members in safe practices and construction methods
• Coordinate with crews, inspectors and subcontractors to resolve conflicts
• Report incidents, schedule impacts to Superintendent
• Perform skilled labor as needed

About the Role

Trumbull Corp is seeking proven field leaders to provide hands-on leadership for crews performing bridge, roadway, structural concrete, and related heavy civil construction. This position plans and directs daily field activities, coordinates labor, materials, tools, and equipment, and ensures work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with plans, specifications, schedules, and quality requirements. The Foreman serves as the primary field leader for assigned crews and works closely with the Superintendent, project management team, inspectors, subcontractors, and other trades.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, direct, and work alongside labor crews engaged in bridge construction, rehabilitation, structural concrete, roadway, drainage, and related heavy/highway activities.

• Plan daily work, assign tasks, communicate production goals, and adjust crew resources to maintain schedule and productivity.

• Read and interpret plans, specifications, shop drawings, work packages, survey information, and concrete placement details.

• Coordinate formwork, reinforcing steel, embeds, anchor bolts, shoring, placement, vibration, finishing, curing, stripping, patching, and repair activities.

• Verify line, grade, dimensions, elevations, reinforcement placement, form readiness, and access before concrete placement.

• Coordinate concrete deliveries, pumps, cranes, tools, equipment, testing, traffic control, and required inspections.

• Conduct pre-task planning and daily safety meetings; identify hazards and enforce company, project, and regulatory safety requirements.

• Ensure employees use required personal protective equipment and follow procedures for fall protection, excavation, lifting, rigging, confined spaces, silica exposure, and equipment operation, as applicable.

• Monitor workmanship and materials, correct deficiencies promptly, and minimize rework, waste, and damage.

• Track labor hours, quantities, deliveries, equipment use, delays, and daily production; provide accurate reports to supervision.

• Maintain an orderly jobsite and ensure tools and equipment are inspected, properly used, secured, and stored.

• Train, coach, and mentor crew members in safe work practices, construction methods, quality expectations, and proper tool use.

• Coordinate with other crews, subcontractors, inspectors, and project staff to resolve field conflicts and maintain workflow.

• Immediately report incidents, near misses, quality concerns, changed conditions, and schedule impacts to the Superintendent.

• Perform skilled labor duties as needed and fulfill other project-related responsibilities assigned by management.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and construction experience.

• At least five years of heavy civil, bridge, highway, or structural concrete construction experience, including two years in a lead or foreman capacity.

• Demonstrated knowledge of structural concrete operations, including formwork, reinforcing steel, concrete placement, finishing, curing, and repair.

• Ability to read construction drawings, specifications, and survey information and translate them into daily crew assignments.

• Working knowledge of construction safety requirements and job hazard analysis practices.

• Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to document daily production, labor, materials, and field conditions accurately.

• Valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.

• Ability to work overtime, nights, weekends, and varying shifts and to travel to project locations as required.

Preferred Qualifications

• OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour Construction certification.
• Current First Aid/CPR certification.
• Qualified rigger and signal person training.
• Experience with Department of Transportation bridge and highway projects.
• Experience with survey equipment, layout, total stations, or laser levels.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

Work is performed primarily outdoors in changing weather conditions and around active highway and heavy equipment operations. Must be able to walk uneven terrain, climb on and off equipment, kneel, bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods. Must be able to lift and carry materials and tools up to 50 pounds. Must be able to work safely around noise, dust, vibration, moving equipment, traffic, and underground utilities.
