Job summary

Harsco Environmental in Butler, PA, is seeking a Heavy Equipment Technician to maintain, diagnose, and repair a wide range of heavy mobile and stationary equipment used in a steel mill environment.

You will perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and powertrains, while prioritizing safety and uptime. The role requires 3+ years of experience and the ability to work rotating shifts in a demanding industrial setting.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3+ years of experience maintaining heavy equipment in an industrial, mining, steel mill, or construction environment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and electrical/electronic controls.
• Ability to read, interpret, and apply OEM service procedures and technical documentation.
• Willingness to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on heavy industrial equipment including wheel loaders, dozers, excavators, cranes, locomotives, material holders, and support equipment.
• Inspect mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and powertrain systems to identify failures or performance issues.
• Repair or replace engines, transmissions, braking systems, hydraulic components, and electrical systems in accordance with OEM specifications.
• Utilize technical manuals, schematics, drawings, and service bulletins to perform accurate repairs and modifications.
• Conduct equipment inspections and document maintenance activities in accordance with company procedures.
• Work safely in active steel-mill operations, including high-temperature zones and around moving equipment.
• Comply with safety regulations and participate in JSAs and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to minimize equipment downtime.
• Welding, cutting, and fabrication repairs as required (preferred).
