Job summary

Komatsu in Rock Springs, Wyoming is seeking a Heavy Equipment Technician (Field) to maintain and repair diesel-powered equipment and related systems. You will work onsite, performing diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on a range of heavy machinery and engines.

Qualifications include a high school diploma/GED with 4–6 years of diesel maintenance experience; an Associate degree in Diesel Technology is preferred. A CDL and forklift certification may be required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and process paperwork (work orders, parts orders, JSA, DBS, SIMS, SIS web, STW) accurately.
• Provide accurate quotes and pricing estimates to customers.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot problems and perform repairs with minimal supervision.

Job Overview

As a Heavy Equipment Technician, you’ll play a vital role in delivering exceptional service and support to our service operations while working with some of the most advanced machinery in the world. Key Job Responsibilities

• Complete assigned jobs and task to meet flat rate times and re-do metric.
• Work safely and follow all KEC/Customer safety policies and procedures.
• Complete related paperwork and access databases require to complete job (work order, parts order, JSA, DBS, SIMS, SIS web, STW) accurately and timely.
• Follow contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations.
• Remove and install parts, disassemble and assemble components, and test and adjust assemblies with minimal to no supervision.
• Ability to provide accurate quotes and pricing estimates to the customer.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot problems, give recommendations for repairs and make all critical machine and engine repairs and adjustments with minimal to no supervision.
• Test and verify correct operation of all repairs and adjustments.
• Apply general failure analysis and procedures to determine proper diagnosis.

Qualifications/Requirements

• Education & Experience: High school diploma/GED required (Associate in Diesel Technology preferred) with 4–6 years of related diesel maintenance experience, or an equivalent combination.
• Work Schedule: Flexible to work various schedules and shifts.
• Technical & Analytical: Proficient in basic math, business calculations (rates, ratios, percentages), geometry, and standard database, manufacturing, and order processing software. Combines data with sound intuition to analyze and solve problems efficiently.
• Communication & Service: Reads, writes, and speaks clearly. Skillfully presents information to customers and team members while delivering prompt, responsive service.
• Professional Conduct: Maintains composure under pressure, takes accountability, adheres strictly to safety protocols, and adapts smoothly to shifting workplace priorities.
• Workplace Performance: Balances team and individual goals, organizes and prioritizes tasks effectively, and consistently meets quality and productivity standards.
• Tooling: Must have a complete set of mechanics tools that meet minimum requirements as defined on Komatsu Equipment Company technician tool list

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

• Clean driving record and CDL (Field Technician only).
• Certified to operate a forklift and/or manlift.
• May be required to complete a DOT physical.
• Required to complete MSHA certification.
• May be required to complete respirator certification.
• Abide by all Company policies and procedures

Work Environment

• Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and toxic or caustic chemicals.
• Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions.
• Occasionally exposed to extreme heat; risk of electrical shock and vibration.
• Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Hiring Range

At Komatsu, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays $29.00. The actual offer will consider a wide range of factors, including experience and location.
