Job summary

Republic Services seeks a Heavy Equipment Technician to repair and maintain heavy equipment, compact equipment, light service equipment, and light trucks. The role includes diagnostics of hydraulic, electrical, HVAC and emission systems, and performing overhauls when needed.

The technician uses Fleet Management Software, reads condition reports, and adheres to all safety policies. Relevant ASE certifications and at least 1 year of heavy equipment experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge in air brakes, tires, hydraulics, advanced electrical, drive train, suspension and wheel-end components as evidenced by ASE Certification.
• At least 1 year of experience as a technician working on heavy equipment.
• Minimum of 1 year of prior experience servicing heavy equipment and performing maintenance repairs.
• Mechanical Trade School certificate or degree; certificate in electrical diagnostics.
• Applicable ASE certifications.
• Working knowledge of Tier 4 emission systems.
• Welding and/or fabrication skills and/or experience.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair mechanical problems on heavy equipment and perform preventative maintenance on electrical, diesel and gasoline vehicles.
• Repair or perform PM on equipment such as compactors, excavators, wheel loaders, and other vehicles to maximize safe and productive operations.
• Work on engines, transmissions, chassis, drivelines, hydraulic, brakes, electrical and suspension systems, wheels, tires and undercarriages.
• Read and interpret equipment condition reports and repair orders; discuss defects with supervisors or operators to plan preventive techniques.
• Complete repair paperwork, track parts usage and input times into timekeeping systems.
• Record hours, fuel, and oil usage and input data into fleet management software; collect oil analysis data.
• Follow all safety policies and procedures; perform engine overhauls as required.
