Job summary

United States Sugar Corporation is seeking an Equipment Specialist to operate swing cab telescopic cranes, large excavators (>35 tons) and large pay loaders with safety and efficiency. This is a day shift position with periodic overtime including nights, weekends and holidays.

The role may require rotating shifts working independently or in a team to meet production needs, and involves performing pre/post inspections and minor on-site maintenance.

Qualifications

  • Must have a minimum of 2 years of verifiable full-time experience operating swing cab telescopic cranes in an industrial setting, a large excavator (>35 ton), and a large pay loader (8yd capacity).
  • Must have a valid NCCCO certification for swing cab telescopic cranes (TLL).
  • Must have positive results from company-designated tests measuring basic skills, job skills, mechanical aptitude, and other qualities.
  • Must be 18 years or older with a good work and disciplinary history.
  • Applicant must read, write, and speak English to understand instructions and ensure safety on site.
  • Applicant must be in good health and physically able to perform all work phases.
  • New hires must pass a drug test and other pre-employment screenings and complete required training/orientation.

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently as directed by supervision.
  • Conduct daily pre/post operation inspections and fill inspection checklists.
  • Perform cleaning, minor preventative maintenance, and minor repairs of equipment.
  • Work independently or in a team to meet production standards and support multiple departments.
  • Assist in training/mentoring other operators.

Job description

Job Location: UNITED STATES SUGAR MANUFACTURING

Reporting to the Equipment Supervisor, this is a day shift position with periodic overtime requirements, including nights, weekends, holidays, and occasionally working rotating shift as needed. The Equipment Specialist will work independently, or in a team, to safely and efficiently operate Swing cab telescopic cranes, hydraulic excavators, pay loaders and other heavy equipment as needed.

FUNCTIONS
  • Abide by all Company policies outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Successfully participate in and complete all training sessions, safety classes, pre-shift meetings, and certifications related to the position.
  • Operate multiple types of heavy equipment, in a safe and efficient manner, as directed by supervision.
  • Conduct, daily, pre/post operation inspections of equipment and job site, fill out inspection check lists.
  • Will be responsible for cleaning equipment, providing minor preventative maintenance and making minor repairs of various types of equipment.
  • Perform all tasks in a safe and efficient manner, minimize idle time, meet production standards set by management, operate various types of equipment and/or vehicles in multiple departments, performing manual labor as needed, and assisting in training/mentoring of other operators.

  • Applicant must be in good health and physically able to perform all phases of the work.
  • New hires must pass a drug test and other pre-employment background screening, and successfully complete any required training or orientation course.
WORKING CONDITIONS

80% of the work environment is conducted while seated in an enclosed control cab operating heavy equipment outdoors in variable/extreme weather conditions, and using two hands and two feet simultaneously to operate controls. Required to regularly climb up and down ladders to access the control cab. Will routinely move material in a warehouse environment, and exposed to heights.

20% of the work environment is conducted while walking in an open outdoor environment on uneven ground, exposed to variable/extreme weather, moving machinery, insects and other wildlife, with reduced visibility due to blowing dust and particles. Will routinely move corrosive and other potentially hazardous materials using heavy equipment. Will regularly be required to perform manual labor, lift, carry, push and pull of up to 55 lbs. unassisted.
