Job summary

Louisiana Cat is seeking a Heavy Equipment Service Instructor to develop and deliver hands-on and classroom training for Caterpillar construction and earthmoving equipment. You will help technicians build skills to diagnose, maintain, and repair machines while reinforcing safe work practices.

The role supports onboarding and continuous improvement through Louisiana Cat's competency-based framework, based primarily in New Iberia with some travel to other Louisiana Cat locations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Extensive experience working on heavy equipment.
• Strong understanding of powertrain, fuel, A/C, cooling, lubrication, and electronic controls.
• Proven troubleshooting and repair experience in heavy equipment environments.
• Ability to read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and diagnostic data.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
• Comfortable speaking in front of groups and leading hands-on training.
• Proficient with computer systems for documentation and training tools.
• Must have a valid driver\'s license with clean Motor Vehicle record.
• Familiarity with Caterpillar SIS, CAT ET, and diagnostic software.
• Prior instructor or lead technician experience (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Facilitate classroom instruction and hands-on shop training.
• Teach engine diagnostics, fuel systems, cooling systems, A/C systems, electronic controls and diagnostics, and powertrain.
• Provide instruction on best safety practices, including job hazard analysis and safe work procedures.
• Support technician onboarding and skill development pathways.
• Evaluate technician performance through practical assessments and knowledge checks.
• Maintain training materials, aids, and shop equipment used for instruction.
• Work with service managers to identify skill gaps and training priorities.
• Promote a strong safety culture and professional work standards.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Louisiana Cat is seeking a Heavy Equipment Service Instructor to support the development of heavy equipment service technicians. This role is responsible for delivering hands-on and classroom-based technical training focused on Caterpillar construction and earthmoving equipment, machine systems, and related technologies. The instructor will help technicians develop the knowledge and skills needed to safely diagnose, maintain, and repair Caterpillar machines while reinforcing best practices in safety, equipment operation, and service procedures. This role also supports technician career progression through Louisiana Cat's competency-based training framework. This position will be based out of our New Iberia location.

YOUR CONTRIBUTION

MOST IMPORTANT QUALIFICATIONS

• REQUIRED: High school diploma or GED equivalent
• REQUIRED: Extensive experience working on heavy equipment
• REQUIRED: Strong understanding of powertrain, fuel, A/C, cooling, lubrication systems, electronic engine controls and diagnostics
• REQUIRED: Proven troubleshooting and repair experience in heavy equipment environments
• REQUIRED: Avility to read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and diagnostic data
• REQUIRED: Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts clearly
• REQUIRED: Comfortable speaking in front of groups and leading hands-on training

JOB FACTS

• This role will be based primarily in New Iberia with occassional travel to other Louisiana Cat Branches
• This role will be a combination of classroom, shop, and hands-on lab environments
• This role requires physical movement, lifting, mechanical rotating parts and compliance with PPE (personal protective equipment) safety regulations
