The Opportunity

This lead position supports the operation, maintenance, and construction of natural gas pipelines and associated facilities within an assigned operating area. The successful candidate will provide leadership in field operations and demonstrate strong communication, work coordination, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills. This individual must be a self-starter who can work effectively with minimal supervision and maintain a strong working knowledge of TC Energy safety practices, operating procedures, work management processes, and compliance requirements. This position is represented by the United Steelworkers Local 628, and the filling of the position is subject to the terms and conditions of the governing collective bargaining agreement.

What you’ll do
  • Operate heavy-duty equipment, including bulldozers, skid steers, backhoes, excavators, mobile lifts, motor graders, mobile cranes, vac trucks, and similar equipment
  • Operate heavy trucks to pick up and deliver supplies and materials to designated locations
  • Perform excavation work required to maintain assets
  • Perform mowing, clearing, and road maintenance required to access and maintain assets
  • Grease and fuel equipment daily and make operating adjustments as required
  • Stage equipment, materials, and supplies at work sites
  • Assist with handling and transporting fluids, including glycol, pipeline liquids, basement wastewater, and methanol
  • Maintain daily material-handling logs
  • Report spills promptly and ensure proper cleanup and disposal
  • Perform or coordinate preventive maintenance on heavy equipment and trucks
  • Coordinate annual cargo tank inspections, cleanings, and pressure tests
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on heavy equipment and trucks
  • Inspect and maintain loading, lifting, and transporting devices, including straps, chains, and binders
  • Prepare and complete shipping manifests for hazardous-material waste disposal
  • Assist with work planning and participate in safety and team meetings as required
  • Document work in the company’s electronic Work Management system and complete all required follow-up documentation
  • Support the planning, preparation, and execution of low-complexity projects
  • Assist with operations-related tasks as needed
  • Submit One Call notifications for excavation-related projects
  • Submit permitting documentation (PDIF) for locally led projects
  • Support leak repairs
  • Support pigging operations
  • Read and interpret operational maps
  • Apply general knowledge of pipeline coating and construction standards
  • Communicate with contractors, the public, landowners, and government agencies regarding gas operations
  • Obtain quotes and maintain an inventory of parts and tools
  • Support the acquisition of road permits when required
  • Enforce right-of-way use and Damage Prevention guidelines with support from the Land Agent
  • Identify, investigate, and properly report right-of-way encroachments
  • Identify, investigate, and properly report asset exposures
  • Safely operate quick-opening enclosures on associated equipment
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Demonstrated proficiency using a variety of computer applications and systems, including:
    • Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams)
    • Company software systems (Intranet, SharePoint, Geofind, Eagle Eye, and Utilisphere)
    • Google Earth
    • Adobe software
    • Work Management systems, such as SAP Work Manager/Blueworx
    • Windows and Apple operating-system navigation
    • Photo-sharing and editing tools used to create detailed illustrations of pipeline rights-of-way, access roads, and related assets
    • File upload and download functions for TOPs, photos, and related documentation
  • Proven ability to operate heavy equipment
  • Proven leadership and communication capabilities
  • Mechanical knowledge, skills, and experience
  • Ability to successfully complete respirator fit testing
  • Ability to obtain the operator qualifications required for the position
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Valid DOT certification or the ability to obtain it
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with tank, trailer, and hazardous-materials endorsements, or the ability to obtain them
  • Ability to operate a UTV when required
Additional Information
  • This role requires working in extreme weather conditions.
  • This role is subject to call-outs and overtime based on business needs.
  • Travel to other facilities may be required for training, maintenance, and operational support.
  • A rotating work‑shift schedule may be required.
  • The work schedule may change on short notice to support operational requirements.
