Job summary

Vortex Companies, LLC in Houston, TX is seeking a Heavy Machine Operator to join our underground utility crew. The role combines operating heavy equipment with field labor to move materials, dig trenches, and support trenchless projects.

Applicants should have 1+ year of heavy equipment experience, be capable of working outdoors in all weather, and pass drug, background, and DOT screenings. Some travel and extended stays may be required.

Qualifications

• 1+ year of heavy equipment operating experience.
• Underground utility construction or excavation experience.
• Must pass pre-employment drug test, background check, and DOT physical.
• Trucking experience a plus.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently on underground utility and trenchless jobs.
• Perform daily equipment inspections and basic upkeep.
• Assist with digging, bed, and backfill trenches with ground personnel.
• Cut, fit, and seal piping; ensure proper trench depth and grade.
• Support installation of water, storm, and sanitary sewer pipe.
• Work outside of machinery to assist crew with labor tasks.
• Load and unload materials and equipment as needed.
• Follow all safety policies and jobsite requirements.
