Job summary

City of Lubbock is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to support street and right-of-way maintenance. The role involves operating backhoes, loaders, dump trucks, skid steers, and salt spreaders, along with performing routine maintenance on machinery.

The candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid Texas driver license, and CDL within one year of hire; a physical exam is required. Ability to work on call during inclement weather is preferred.

Knowledge of:

• Operation and maintenance of heavy motorized equipment typically used in construction or maintenance activities.

Ability to:

• Operate heavy equipment skillfully and safely to assist in maintenance of streets, alleyways and maintain other city right of way;
• Perform maintenance and service work on trucks and heavy equipment;
• Make field repairs;
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Assist during times of inclement weather running snow equipment during Emergency Operations
• Ability to be on call after the hours on a rotational basis.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds;
• Occasionally lift and carry up to 75 pounds;
• Walk and stand during a shift;
• Climb ladders, scaffolding, stairs, poles and inclined surfaces;
• Continuously push and pull objects;
• Frequently flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees;
• Frequently rotate upper trunk to the right or left while sitting or standing;
• Reach above, at or below shoulder height;
• Coordinate eye, hand and foot movement in order to operate motorized vehicles and machinery.
