Job summary

Rio Grande Electric Cooperative, Inc. is seeking an Equipment Operator to operate a variety of light and heavy equipment for right-of-way clearing and distribution line work.

You will assist line crews, perform preventive maintenance, and maintain records while adhering to RUS requirements and safety policies. Qualified applicants will have experience with heavy equipment, a valid Texas Class A CDL, and the ability to follow instructions and work under general supervision.

Qualifications

• Experience operating heavy and light equipment used for right-of-way clearing; apprenticeship or degree preferred.
• Familiar with gauges, instrumentation, and basic mechanical adjustments.
• Knowledge of safety standards and operating principles for heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

• Operate light and heavy equipment (backhoes, loaders, forklifts, dump trucks, bulldozers) for ROW clearing and construction.
• Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and minor repairs; track maintenance.
• Load/unload equipment; ensure safety and adherence to specs.
• Maintain records on equipment and inventory; assist during emergencies as needed.
• Learn and follow safety rules; maintain confidentiality; work under general supervision.
