Job summary

Mackinac County Road Commission seeks a Heavy Equipment Operator in Hessel, Michigan. The role involves operating a variety of heavy equipment for road maintenance and construction, including snowplows and earth-moving equipment.

Must hold a valid Class A CDL and have minimum 2 years of experience in road work. Position is full-time with year-round schedule; benefits include health, dental, vision, life insurance, a retirement plan, paid time off, and a boot allowance.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years' experience operating heavy equipment used in road construction and maintenance.
• Valid driver's license and Class A CDL.
• Ability to travel throughout Mackinac County in a company provided vehicle.
• Willingness to work outside normal hours and respond to emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment for public works projects, road maintenance and construction, including dump trucks with snowplows, bulldozers, graders, excavators, loaders, mowers and backhoes.
• Operate associated tools and equipment to install, repair, and replace pipes, posts, signs, and delineators along highways.
• Repair cracks and potholes in highways and bridges using hand tools and sealant materials.
• Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil and lubricating equipment, and service/repair equipment as needed.
• Assist in blade adjustments, snow plowing, patching, hauling gravel, and salting roads.
• Participate in training courses and follow safe work and lifting procedures.
• Work in high traffic areas and various weather conditions; lift up to 100 pounds with assistance.
