Job summary

M.T. Carter Contracting LLC is seeking an experienced heavy equipment operator to join our field crew in Minnesota.

The ideal candidate will be competent in foundation excavation, backfilling, and trenching, with experience hoisting manholes, pipe, and trench boxes. You will work with loaders, backhoes, dozers, excavators, skid steers, and Bobcats, ensuring safe digging practices, proper depth, and accurate placement of water, sewer, and storm lines.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years operating heavy equipment.
• Experience with water, sewer, storm system installation.
• Reliable transportation.
• Extensive physical ability.
• Able to work Monday–Saturday if needed.

Responsibilities

• Dig trenches and ensure excavation depth/grade with proper safety slopes or protection.
• Backfill holes or compact earth for construction.
• Avoid hazards and obstructions such as utilities, other equipment, workers, and falling objects.
• Place water, storm, and sanitary sewer pipes in the excavation.
• Familiarize with digging plans, machine capabilities, and safe procedures.
• Observe hand signals and grade stakes to meet specifications.
• Safely operate machines and perform basic maintenance.
• Assist in placement/movement of signs and traffic control devices.
• Other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate must be competent in foundation excavation and backfilling. Experience hoisting manholes/pipe/trench boxes, safety procedures for trench excavation, loading trucks, rough grading, general site safety is required. Must also be familiar with tasks ranging from water, sewer, storm system installation, and heavy earthwork, etc.

MUST OPERATE AN THE FOLLOWING EFFICIENTLY

Loaders, Backhoes, Dozers, Excavators skid steers, and Bobcats

Major Tasks & Responsibilities

• Dig trenches and ensures the trench is excavated to the proper depth/grade with proper safety sloping or protection.
• Backfill holes, or compact earth to prepare for construction.
• Avoid potential hazards and obstructions such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, and falling objects
• Responsible for placement of water, storm & sanitary sewer pipe in the excavation.
• Become familiar with digging plans, machine capabilities and limitations, and with efficient and safe digging procedures in a given application.
• Observe hand signals, grade stakes, or other markings when operating machines so that work can be performed to specifications.
• Safely operates machines, performs minor maintenance and up-keep of equipment
• Assist in the placement, moving and dismantling of signs, barricades, cones and other traffic control devices.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Related work experience with pipe, trench work and installation of utilities such as storm drains, sewer mains etc.
• Reliable transportation.
• Requires extensive physical ability.
• Able to work Monday - Saturday if needed.
