Balkema Sitework & Development in Kalamazoo, MI is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator/Laborer to join our Gravel Pit team. You will operate a range of heavy equipment and support site preparation and material handling.

We value safety, reliability, and teamwork; candidates should have experience operating excavators, dozers, loaders, and backhoes, with MSHA training a plus but we will train the right candidate.

Qualifications

• Valid Driver's License required or must obtain it promptly.
• Experience operating excavators, dozers, loaders, backhoes and other heavy equipment.
• Commitment to safety, quality workmanship and learning on the job.
• Able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy construction equipment such as excavators, dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, water trucks, dump trucks, and tankers in accordance with safety standards and project specifications.
• Perform digging, lifting, moving material and loading tasks to support site progress.
• Follow safety guidelines and protocols for each piece of equipment operated.
• Assist with site preparation, grading, excavation, and material handling.
• Conduct routine maintenance checks and minor repairs to ensure optimal operation.
• Read and interpret construction plans and diagrams as needed.
• Collaborate with team members to complete projects efficiently and safely.

About this position

We are seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator/Laborer to join our Gravel Pit team.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for ensuring efficient and safe operations
• Perform tasks including digging, lifting, moving material and loading
• Follow safety guidelines and protocols for each piece of equipment operated
• Operate heavy construction equipment such as excavators, dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, water trucks, dump trucks, and tankers in accordance with safety standards and project specifications
• Assist with site preparation, grading, excavation, and material handling to ensure project progress
• Perform routine maintenance checks and minor repairs on equipment to ensure optimal operation
• Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean work environment to prevent accidents
• Collaborate with team members to complete projects efficiently and effectively

• Ability to work on diverse construction projects including paving and horizontal drilling
• Excellent teamwork skills with the ability to follow detailed instructions
• Physical stamina for long hours working outdoors in varying weather conditions

Experience

• Heavy Equipment Operation - 2 years preferred
• Experience loading trucks with loader
