The City of Lancaster is seeking dependable and safety focused Heavy Equipment Operator I candidates to join our Public Works team. This recruitment will be used to fill vacancies within either the Streets Division or Storm Water Division.
Depending on assignment, this position performs skilled field work involving the operation of heavy equipment to maintain and repair City streets, drainage systems, rights of way, culverts, ditches, channels, easements, and other public infrastructure.
The Heavy Equipment Operator I works as part of a Public Works crew performing roadway repairs, drainage maintenance, concrete work, vegetation removal, hauling materials, job-site cleanup, and other projects throughout the City. The position may also serve as Crew Leader in the absence of the Heavy Equipment Operator II.

This position has no regular supervisory responsibilities; however, the employee may serve as Crew Leader in the absence of the Heavy Equipment Operator II.
High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate; or one to three years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The position regularly requires standing, walking, climbing, balancing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Employees regularly lift or move up to 25 pounds, frequently up to 50 pounds, and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
A valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) must be obtain within one year of your employment.
