Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. is hiring a Heavy Equipment Operator in Michigan. The role requires safe operation of excavators, front loaders, bulldozers and similar machinery to bale, load and move waste material on the site.

You will perform daily inspections, grease and check fluids, and assist with maintenance. Candidates should be able to lift up to 50 pounds, read English, and follow safety rules at all times.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred but not required.
• Forklift certification.
• Ability to obtain Transfer Station/Landfill Operations Certification if needed.
• Ability to read, speak, understand and write English.
• Physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment to bale and load waste/material into trailers.
• Perform daily inspections and maintenance checks.
• Grease/lubricate equipment and check/add fluids daily.
• Steer, guide and drive listed equipment at site.
• Substitute for another operator as needed.
• Clean trash from tracks and gear mechanisms daily or as needed.
• Communicate with co-workers via two-way radio.
• Follow laws, policies and directives from supervisors.
• Maintain grounds and facility appearance; attend safety meetings.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
