Job summary

Cardinal Civil Contracting is seeking an experienced heavy equipment operator for work in Pineville, NC. You will operate excavators, bulldozers, wheel loaders, and other equipment to clear sites, grade, install utilities, and prepare paving surfaces.

Responsibilities include reading construction plans, performing inspections, and maintaining equipment while adhering to OSHA and safety standards. CDL is preferred but not required; overtime and weekends may be necessary.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of heavy equipment operating experience in civil construction, site development, or roadway construction preferred.
• Ability to operate multiple types of heavy equipment safely and efficiently.
• Knowledge of construction plans, grades, elevations, and utility layouts.

• Perform rough and fine grading to meet project specifications for paving and site development.
• Excavate trenches and install underground utilities including storm drainage, sanitary sewer, and water lines.
• Load, move, and stockpile materials efficiently.
• Read and interpret grade stakes, construction plans, and project specifications.
• Complete daily pre-trip and post-trip equipment inspections and report maintenance needs promptly.
• Follow OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and environmental requirements.

Operate heavy equipment for site clearing, excavation, grading, utility installation, and paving preparation

Safely operate equipment including:

• Excavators
• Bulldozers (Dozers)
• Wheel Loaders
• Skid Steers (as needed)
• Motor Rollers/Compactors
• Street Sweepers
• Articulated or Standard Dump Trucks
• Other construction equipment as assigned

Perform rough grading and fine grading to meet project specifications for paving and site development

Excavate trenches and install underground utilities, including storm drainage, sanitary sewer, and water lines

Load, move, and stockpile materials efficiently

Read and interpret grade stakes, construction plans, and project specifications

Work around existing underground utilities while following safe excavation practices

Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip equipment inspections and report maintenance needs promptly

Maintain equipment cleanliness and perform routine preventive maintenance

Work safely around other equipment, laborers, and traffic within active construction sites

Assist ground crews when equipment operation is not required

Follow all OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and environmental requirements

Complete work efficiently while maintaining high standards of quality and accuracy

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Minimum of 3 years of heavy equipment operating experience in civil construction, site development, or roadway construction preferred
• Experience with site clearing, underground utility installation, grading, and paving preparation
• Ability to operate multiple types of heavy equipment safely and efficiently
• Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred but not required
• Knowledge of construction plans, grades, elevations, and utility layouts
• Ability to work overtime and occasional weekends as project schedules require
