Heavy Equipment Operator
1st Shift | Monday - Friday | $20/hr | TempToHire
Job Summary:
We are seeking a dependable and safety-conscious Heavy Equipment Operator to operate and maintain heavy machinery used in daily operations. The ideal candidate will have experience operating heavy equipment in a construction, aggregate, concrete, or industrial environment. Excavator experience is a plus.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Safely operate heavy equipment to move, load, unload, grade, and position materials as directed.
- Operate equipment such as excavators, loaders, skid steers, and other heavy machinery as assigned.
- Excavator operating experience is a plus.
- Perform daily pre-shift and post-shift equipment inspections and report any safety concerns, damage, or mechanical issues.
- Check equipment fluid levels and perform basic maintenance as needed.
- Keep equipment clean and free of excessive dirt, debris, concrete buildup, and other materials.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Assist with general labor duties as needed, including sweeping, shoveling, cleanup, and assisting other departments.
- Follow all company policies, procedures, safety requirements, and supervisor instructions.
- Operate equipment safely and efficiently while maintaining awareness of surrounding employees, vehicles, and equipment.
- Assist other team members and departments as needed to maintain workflow and meet production goals.
- Report to work as scheduled and complete assigned work in a timely, accurate, and thorough manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including working in other areas to cover absences, provide relief, or balance workloads.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Previous heavy equipment operating experience preferred.
- Experience operating an excavator is a plus.
- Ability to safely operate heavy machinery in a busy work environment.
- Strong awareness of workplace safety and surroundings.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to take direction from supervisors and management.
- Dependable, organized, and self-motivated.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to assist with general labor and other duties as needed.
- Basic understanding of equipment inspections and routine maintenance.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Work is primarily outdoors and may involve exposure to extreme temperatures, moisture, dust, dirt, noise, and changing weather conditions.
- Must be able to work safely in an outdoor industrial/construction environment.
- Must be able to climb onto and off heavy equipment.
- Must be able to perform physical tasks such as walking, standing, bending, lifting, shoveling, and sweeping.
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Must be able to tolerate frequent exposure to varying weather conditions, with or without reasonable accommodation.
