Job summary

SunEnergy1 in North Carolina is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to perform ground preparation for solar module foundations across multiple sites. You will operate bulldozer, scraper, motor grader, and related equipment, using GPS for layout, and assist the line crew with digging and material handling.

Travel within North Carolina and extended hours are required. A valid driver's license and OSHA certification are required, with a $1,000 sign-on bonus after 90 days.

Qualifications

  • Experience with GPS for site layout and ground preparation.
  • Experience operating bulldozer, scraper, motor grader, soil compactor, dump truck, wheel loader, and related machinery.
  • Attention to detail and results-oriented in a cross-functional, fast-paced environment.
  • Proactive thinker with ability to anticipate next steps.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean record.
  • OSHA certification or similar equipment trainings.

Overview

The Heavy Equipment Operator manages and performs ground preparation for the placement of solar module foundations and support located on various sites across North Carolina, as directed by the Grading Foreman and/or assigned manager. This role includes a $1,000 sign-on bonus after 90 days.

Responsibilities
  • Operate heavy equipment such as bulldozer, scraper, motor grader, soil compactor, dump truck, wheel loader, and related machinery.
  • Utilize GPS and related GPS equipment for site layout and ground preparation.
  • Assist the line crew in digging ditches and trenches, hoisting materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment; report defects or repairs to the supervisor; clean and maintain equipment.
  • Work with the grading foreman and/or manager to complete tasks in a cross-functional, fast-paced, and evolving environment, including extended hours as required.
  • Travel as required to multiple sites within North Carolina.
Qualifications
  • Experience with the use and capabilities of GPS equipment.
  • Experience operating various heavy equipment (bulldozer, scraper, motor grader, soil compactor, dump truck, wheel loader, etc.).
  • Attention to detail and results-oriented; able to work in a cross-functional, fast-paced, and evolving environment with extended hours as needed.
  • Proactive thinker with the ability to anticipate next steps.
  • Valid driver’s license with no recordable violations.
  • Relevant certifications (OSHA card, equipment trainings, etc.).
Physical Demands
  • Ability to work in extreme indoor and outdoor environments (hot sun, cold, wet weather, mud, loud noises).
  • Full mobility in upper and lower body.
  • Ability to perform various positions (stooping, standing, bending, kneeling, squatting, walking) for extended periods.
  • Lift, pull, push, and carry materials and equipment as needed.
  • Able to work 8–12 hours per day, 40 hours per week; physical work is a primary part of the job.
  • Regularly required to hear, speak, understand directions, and maintain visual acuity.
  • Drive a passenger car or pickup truck and traverse rough and uneven surfaces on foot.
