We are seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. In this role, you will operate various types of heavy machinery, including excavators, bulldozers, rubber tire loaders, graders, and skid steers, to support the construction of commercial site development projects. The ideal candidate will have experience operating heavy equipment, a solid understanding of construction site safety, and the ability to work effectively within a team to ensure the timely and efficient completion of projects.
Key Responsibilities
Candidates should be proficient in the following skills:
Equipment Operation
Operating heavy construction equipment safely and efficiently including, but not limited to, excavators, bulldozers, backhoes, skid steers, and graders.
Operating excavators to perform tasks such as excavating foundations to finish subgrade per plan.
Backfilling foundations and interior finish-grading.
Working with soils techs to achieve passing density.
Operating rubber-tire and skid loaders for fine-grading of hardscapes
Performing lot finish-grading using survey stakes with or without GPS systems.
Ensuring proper use of equipment in various conditions, such as uneven terrain or confined spaces.
Conducting pre-operational checks and routine maintenance to ensure equipment is in safe working condition (e.g., greasing, checking fluid levels, tire pressure, and mechanical functionality).
Must have experience working around underground and overhead utilities.
Material Handling & Transport
Estimating material quantities (sand, gravel, VTC, dirt, etc.)
Loading and unloading of materials and ensure proper handling and placement according to project specifications.
Maneuvering materials with limited contamination.
Safety & Compliance
Following all safety regulations and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and your team members.
Operating machinery in accordance with all relevant OSHA standards and company safety protocols.
Ensuring the construction site is clean and free of hazards, reporting any safety concerns to the foreman or site supervisor.
Wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) as required, including hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, and high-visibility clothing.
Communication & Collaboration
Working closely with other construction crew members, including grade checkers, laborers, and supervisors, to ensure smooth project execution.
Following instructions from the foreman and communicating any issues or delays.
Providing feedback on site conditions and any obstacles that may affect productivity.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintaining accurate records of equipment usage, work performed, and any maintenance conducted.
Reporting daily progress and any issues or accidents to the site supervisor.
Qualifications:
Proven experience as a heavy equipment operator in construction (minimum of 3 years preferred).
Ability to interpret basic construction plans, blueprints, and project specifications.
Knowledgeable in the backfill process and able to work with geotechs to pass density testing.
Ability to read grade stakes and achieve finish grade.
Proficient in proper set up and take down of laser equipment.
Proficiency in basic reading, writing, and math skills.
Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot basic equipment issues.
Excellent hand-eye coordination and ability to operate complex machinery.
Strong communication skills and ability to work well within a team.
A valid driver’s license is required, and a CDL is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to operate heavy machinery for extended periods.
Ability to lift and carry 50+ lbs.
Comfortable working outdoors and in various weather conditions and physically demanding environments.
Ability to perform physical labor, including digging, lifting, and operating tools and machinery.
Ability to pass a physical and drug screen upon witness
