Job summary

Davis County Public Works in Fruit Heights, Utah is hiring a Heavy Equipment Operator. This role operates bulldozers, excavators, loaders and other heavy equipment on road and flood control projects, performs pre-use inspections, and assists with transport of materials.

Requires high school diploma and 3 years of full-time heavy equipment experience; must obtain Forklift Ops and Hazard Communications training within 30 days and have a valid Utah Class A CDL and medical card.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma plus three years of full-time experience operating heavy equipment.
  • Must complete Forklift Operations and Hazard Communications tests within 30 days of hire.
  • Must possess or obtain Construction Traffic Control certification within 6 months of hire date.
  • Must possess a valid Class A Utah Commercial Driver License and Driver's Medical Card.

Responsibilities

  • Operates a variety of heavy equipment to construct and repair roads and flood control projects.
  • Performs pre-use inspection on all light and heavy-duty trucks and equipment.
  • Drives trucks delivering crushed gravel, fill dirt, road chips, asphalt, and other materials.
  • Uses a variety of hand tools and equipment common to construction, maintenance and repair work.
  • Maintains vehicle and equipment records and reports any mechanical problems; manages snow plow operations.
  • Available for on-call snow removal and other emergencies.

Davis County Public Works is currently hiring for Heavy Equipment Operator in Fruit Heights, Utah. This position performs performs skilled heavy equipment operation and truck driving, and other duties as required for construction, repair, and maintenance projects.

Requirements

Day to Day Duties
  • Operates a variety of heavy equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, loaders, graders, backhoes, dump trucks, sanders, snowplows, rollers, etc. to construct and repair roads and flood control projects, demolish and tear down buildings, transport equipment, plow roads and perform other projects.
  • Performs pre-use inspection on all light and heavy-duty truck and equipment prior to use and at the end of shift.
  • Drives trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, deliver and unloading of crushed gravel, fill dirt, road chips, hot mix asphalt, cold mix asphalt and other necessary road or flood control construction and repair materials.
  • Performs tasks requiring use of a variety of electric and non-electric hand tools and equipment commonly used in construction, maintenance and repair work.
  • Maintains truck and equipment operational and service records including inspection and proper maintenance of assigned equipment; reports mechanical problems for shop repairs. Installs/removes snow plow on and off trucks; changes snow plow blades; installs and removes sanders from trucks; changes tires on dump trucks; washes trucks and equipment.
  • Must be available for on call snow removal and other emergencies.
