Job summary

Marin Water is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to operate a variety of heavy construction equipment and perform skilled maintenance, construction, and repair work. You’ll work on water system facilities, pipelines, roads, trails, recreation facilities, and watershed improvements all while helping maintain the reliability of our water system and protect Marin’s watershed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Two years of experience in construction trades or maintenance of water facilities.
• Proven proficiency operating a backhoe and mini excavator; familiarity with other heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

• Operate a variety of heavy equipment including backhoes, excavators, loaders, cranes, dozers, graders, mowers.
• Perform construction, maintenance, and repair work on water system facilities, roads, trails, and recreation facilities.
• Operate dump trucks and other vehicles; safely transport equipment.
• Perform equipment servicing, minor repairs, and field adjustments.
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and environments.
• Follow safety procedures and help ensure coworker and public safety.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation.
• Possibly lead and direct the work of others.

Marin Water is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to operate a variety of heavy construction equipment and perform skilled maintenance, construction, and repair work. You’ll work on water system facilities, pipelines, roads, trails, recreation facilities, and watershed improvements all while helping maintain the reliability of our water system and protect Marin’s watershed.

Typical duties may include but are not limited to the following:

• Operate backhoes, excavators, loaders, cranes, dozers, graders, mowers, and other heavy equipment.
• Perform construction, maintenance, and repair work on water system facilities, roads, trails, and recreation facilities.
• Operate dump trucks and other vehicles and safely transport heavy equipment.
• Perform equipment servicing, minor repairs, and field adjustments.
• Work outdoors in a variety of conditions and environments.
• Follow safety procedures and help ensure the safety of coworkers and the public.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation.
• Depending on assignment, participate inwildland firefighting, prescribed burns, and fire fuel-break construction and maintenance.
• May direct the work of others and serve as a lead worker.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of experience in the construction trades or maintenance and repair of water district facilities.
• Demonstrated proficiency operating a backhoe and mini excavator, with familiarity operating other heavy equipment.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Ability to work safely and cooperatively with others and follow written and oral instructions.

Licenses and/or Certifications:

• Valid California driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
• Ability to obtain a Class A California driver’s license within six months of appointment.
• This is a safety-sensitive position subject to applicable U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and federal drug and alcohol testing requirements.
• Employees assigned to the Watershed must successfully complete the District-paid Wildland Fire Academy within 12 months of appointment.
• Depending on assignment, employees must possess or obtain First Aid and CPR certification within 12 months of appointment.

The selection process will consist of a skills exam and a final oral board interview.
