Job summary

City of Charleston is seeking a skilled equipment operator to operate a broad range of heavy machinery on job sites and designated locations. You will work under supervision and must be able to handle equipment with manual transmission, including Riverbank Tractors and Backhoes.

The role requires at least a high school diploma or GED and typically involves loading/unloading gear, adhering to safety procedures, and performing related duties as assigned by the Department Head.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle with a manual transmission.
  • One year of equipment operation experience or closely related experience.
  • CDL Class A or B preferred, endorsements are a plus but not required.

Summary: The purpose of this class within the organization is to operate heavy equipment on job sites, assigned facilities and other designated locations for a department, division or work unit.

This class works under close supervision according to set procedures.

Work Hours: This position will be expected to work a designated schedule established by the Department Head.
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle with a manual transmission. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Essential Duties: include the following. Other and /or additional duties may be assigned. All assigned duties should be performed in an efficient, effective and safe manner.

Operates a broad range of equipment which may include Riverbank Tractors, Right-of-Way Tractors, Vactor Trucks, Backhoe, Excavator, Endloader, Gradall, Blacktop Paver, Roller, Tree Trucks Dump Trucks and/or other equipment.

Loads and unloads equipment, tools, and job materials.

Education / Experience: High School Diploma or GED. Requires one year of equipment operation experience or closely related experience

Certifications / Licenses: Class A or B Commercial Driver's License required. Endorsements are preferred, but not required.
