Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat in North Kingstown, RI is seeking a Heavy Equipment Mechanic for the 2nd shift to repair and maintain heavy mobile equipment (tractors, forklifts, manlifts) and to perform PMs in a safe, OSHA-compliant manner at the Quonset Point facility.

The ideal candidate has a High School diploma or GED (or 2 years related tech experience), a valid driver's license, and brings basic hand tools. Paid training, solid benefits, 401K and growth opportunities are available.

Qualifications

• 2+ years' experience as auto mechanic or related field.

Responsibilities

• Conduct PM inspections and tests per Electric Boat standards.
• Complete major repairs and overhauls on mobile equipment.
• Repair, diagnose, and replace pistons, valves, bearings, cylinders.
• Repair and troubleshoot electromechanical controls on mobile equipment.
• Perform work safely as outlined by OSHA and company policy.
• Inspect fluid levels, hoses, belts, brakes, tires, and clutches.
• Test and adjust hydraulic valves, pumps, and motors.
• Inspect and replace diesel engines and related assemblies.
• Occasional travel to support major moves.

The ideal candidate will have experience performing repairs and PM's to a variety of heavy mobile equipment and vehicles to include tractor trailers, forklifts, and manlifts, various automotive assets.

Experience with special purpose vehicles (transporters and similar equipment) utilizing gasoline or diesel power and have mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems/controls not commonly found on transporters or ordinary transport trucks is preferred.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Conduct PM inspections and tests in accordance with written documents and Electric Boat standards
• Complete major repairs and overhauls to various mobile equipment
• Repair, replace, diagnose failed pistons, valves, bearings, cylinders, etc.
• Repair and troubleshoot electromechanical controls on various mobile equipment
• Perform all work in a safe manner as outlined by OSHA and company safety manual
• Perform maintenance checks and inspections of fluid levels, hoses, belts, brakes, tires, clutches, etc.
• Test, troubleshoot, and adjust hydraulic valves, pumps and motors
• Inspect, repair, and replace diesel engines, main bearing assemblies, steering assemblies, air and hydraulic brakes, etc.
• Periodic travel to support major moves is required

This position is located at the Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, RI

Qualifications

Required:

• High School diploma or GED OR 2 years of related technical experience
• 2+ years' experience in either/or an auto mechanic, garage auto repair or related experience
• Possess a valid driver's license
• Individuals are required to possess their own basic hand tools
• Must be able to work all shifts, overtime, weekends, at heights, confined spaces and extreme temperature conditions as required

Preferred:

• Diesel engine repair and maintenance experience
• Ability to trouble shoot and diagnose electrical and electronic control systems associated with mobile equipment.
• Basic computer skills
• Specific trade certifications/licensing desired
• Technical Education

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills are key to this role
• Knowledge and skill to determine the cause of malfunctions and make necessary repairs to a variety of mobile equipment
• Knowledge of electronics to identify and replace failed components
• Must have basic knowledge to perform maintenance on various pumps, motors, internal gearing, hydraulic systems, and mechanical joints associated with mobile equipment
• Ability to read and interpret service manuals, wiring diagrams, and other technical publications
